This working from home lark and weekend wanders with the Blokefok means my default style is casual chic.
I’m sharing a few recent casual chic outfits … with a Kimba twist!
Casual Chic with a Twist | stripes on stripes
For weekend wanders to the local markets with the Blokefolk, it was all about stripes. The ultimate in casual chic, especially when teamed with denim.
My Kimba twist? Stripes ON stripes. Double stripes. Too many stripes is never enough. I even had striped knickers.
I teamed The Fifth striped sports luxe harem joggers with a GAP oversized striped top. The pants are ponte, and the top is sweatshirt material, so they’re nice and snuggly warm.
I added old school Rockport leather trainers, a Hound + The Hare hairbow from Kenzie Accessories, Mimco sunnies, a pretty scarf from Mini & Mone and my super special bargain picked up at the markets, my Celine baby-bottom-soft leather tote. $5. Yep. FIVE DOLLARS!
Casual Chic with a Twist | statement socks
For a Get Shiz Done Day, I teamed my Three Parsons Roll Neck Tunic (you’re looking at the very last one here – it’s all sold out now) with Wakee distressed skinny jeans from Three Parsons with plum suede Camper wedges.
Another gorgeous Hound + The Hare hairbow – this one is mustard organic cotton with the sweetest panda print. My Celine tote is having another outing. I mean, wouldn’t you?
My Kimba twist? Adding super cute stripey Laura Ashley woollen socks (a Christmas gift from one of my sisters-in-law) to play peekaboo with my Mary Jane-style wedges.
Casual Chic with a Twist | pants as leggings
Another Get Shiz Done Day, this time an At Home day. I teamed a basic black sleeveless black dress from Popbasic with my beloved Hush Puppies boots from The Iconic with a pretty City Chic belt. My top layer of a gorgeous Review long line coatigan is one of my favourite winter pieces. It is my favourite colour combo – black and blue – and has built in print clash action. Yep, spots and stripes. Love that!
My Kimba Twist? I’m wearing a pair of Kelly & Port fitted pants as leggings under my dress.
You know my feelings as about leggings as pants? Just say no. However, pants as leggings? Yes please!
To make this look work, go for a tapered leg style. A wide leg pants style worn with a dress over the top is a great way to channel the 90s. That might work for younger players, but I’ve been there, done that and I’m not going back!
Casual Chic with a Twist | cuffed jeans
A lovely layered Three Parsons knit with a built in leopard pop, worked back with a beaten up pair of Volcom jeans and Emerson studded biker boots from Big W.
I’ve fringe braided one side of my hair and performed some twist & pin action on the other side, before ponytailing it for a casual day. My sweet Tiki pendant is by cult artisan label Windfall Jewellery. I was lucky to win their Instagram giveaway last year and finally decided on this Kiwiana piece.
The Kimba Twist? I’ve smashed a fashion rule (Thou shalt not team pale three quarter pants with high dark boots unless one wants one’s legs to appear stumpier and shorter) by adding a chunky cuff to my faded skinnies, worn over the top of my high top ankle boots. I’m calling it punk cute!
Casual Chic with a Twist | skater dress over jeans
For a Saturday housewarming party, I teamed a super cute Katies jacquard skater dress and faux leather jacket over Crossroads Comfort Tummy Trimmer jeggings. Man, these jeggings! They have deep elasticated sides with a flat front control panel to smooth that belly, plus an awesome supersoft brushed inside to keep me warm.
I added my adorable Uberkate paper plane necklace, my favourite Hush Puppies boots from the Iconic and my new BBFF (that’s bag best friend forever) Celine tote, and a vintage leather belt.
My Kimba twist? I love a sweater dress over jeans, and a tunic dress over jeans is the bomb dot com. A skater dress works just as well. It’s a little more towards the chic end of casual chic – but just as comfy. Perfect for a weekend event like a housewarming party.
