We just LOVE any excuse for a family festival. Mother’s Day is a particular favourite of mine. Wonder why that is?!
In our family, it’s not just Mother’s Day. Oh no, it’s Festival of Mother’s Day. How lovely!
Festival of Mother’s Day | Saturday
We started the celebrations on Saturday with a family walk to the Rozelle Markets. It was the old bait and switch manoeuvre. The Blokefolk told me they were looking for pressies for me at the Markets. Instead, they left me there and headed to the mall instead. Sneaky!
I scored big time at the markets – I bought brand new Erstwilder brooches on sale, a kimono jacket, vintage scarf for hairbow action, a lavender cagoule, a gold sequinned top, some rose gold mini hoop earrings, a vintage porcelain plate stand, a Harlow sequinned bomber jacket, a little red and white 50s-esque sunfrock, a 17 Sundays Basic T shirt dress, and a Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Hillier hobo in Cinnamon Stick. Yep. I know. Winning!
Boyo and I snuggled up for a movie in the afternoon. Guardians of the Galaxy – so much fun, and hello Chris Pratt!
Any meal that starts with dessert is a good meal. One that starts out with homemade s’mores cooked over our portable fire pit (well, most people would call it a mini kettle barbecue, to be fair) and then backs up with barbecued marinated chicken wings, perfectly cooked steak and barbecued vegies? A fantastic meal!
We all snuggled up outside with suitable refreshments and my rescued Nanna blankets around the fire. There were even sparklers!
Festival of Mother’s Day | Sunday
You know it’s a Festival of Mother’s Day when you get two sleep ins in a row! Oh yeah baby!
A delicious smoked salmon scrambled egg breakfast was served to me in bed. The obligatory breakfast in bed, with a hot cup of tea in last year’s traditional Mother’s Day cup. The Blokefolk piled in to present me with a fabulous array of presents. I received a teeny pair of high heels – a fabulous iPhone stand. Some oh so pretty cupcake cases. A furry bunny decoration – Boyo pounced on it in store for his mama, apparently! A selfie stick – dear gods. Gorgeous cards, of the store bought and homemade variety. Handmade Belle Fleur chocolates.
I scored super well at the school’s Mother’s Day stall this year. Boyo scooted home one handed earlier in the week clutching a large potted chrysanthemum. What a treasure he is!
The Blokefolk really, truly love me. How do I know this? They sat through Cinderella for me. Bless them!
The movie was just gorgeousness! Even the Blokefolk thought the dance scene was spectacular. Cate Blanchett rocked a Joan Crawford-esque villainess, Lily James was a transcendent and gentle Cinders, a charming Robb Stark survived his wedding this time around, and Helena Bonham-Carter was an adorably quirky Fairy Godmother. I think it could have done with a slightly sharper edit, but it was absolutely gorgeous.
I had to wear my new mac, of course. Teamed with printed Levi’s Curve ID jeans (picked up in the States in 2013 for the grand total of $11), a silk trimmed Country Road top, Missoni for Target Australia scarf and Tory Burch ballets. My new (to me, at any rate) Classic Q Hillier came for a little adventure too.
I accessorised with Blush & Co Blush of Simplicity necklace and Blush Defined bracelet, The Jewel Collective Andromeda earrings, my new mini rose gold hoops, Honeydew & Violet Organic Halo bangle, Uberkate letter rings, and Red Phoenix pearl and crystal bracelet. A lazy girl twist and pin pony with a Mimco pony holder completed my look.
Back home for more sofa snuggles with scented candles and cups of tea. I was even allowed to blog on the weekend. I know right. It’s like it’s Mother’s Day or something!
A coming-down-with-a-cold Boyo was tucked up in bed early, bless his little cotton socks. I don’t wish him ill will but it was nice to fuss over my big boy a little. The Welshman and I retired to bed with a glass of wine, Yalla chocolate mousse and House of Cards on Netflix. Ah, how’s the serenity?
I’ve felt truly treasured, pampered and loved this Festival of Mother’s Day weekend. I hope you were treated like a princess too.
