Finders Keepers! Oh, how I love it! A fabulous market event packed to the gunwales with hipster chic, handmade goodness, retro cute style and so much creativity you can literally slice it. With a vintage bone handled knife, preferably.
Finders Keepers Sydney is held at the Australian Technology Park in Alexandria, a gorgeous industrial location that is eminently photographable. Boyo has recently developed an interest in photography – see what I did there?
I had the excellent plan to sneak some Mama Boyo time out of our weekend, giving the poor overworked Welshman some time by himself as an added bonus, and hit Finders Keepers with Boyo and our cameras.
To be honest, it is the blind leading the blind when it comes to photography. We started with a quick lesson on the absolute basics, including the rule of thirds and other tips, thanks to Chantelle at Fat Mum Slim.
First up, Boyo and I hit the Etsy Craft Party. It was slightly ironic that one of the reasons we left the house was to avoid doing some craft, and lo and behold, straight into some hipster craft. So much fun! A table full of adorable decorations, glitter glue and metallic pens to decorate a photo awaited us. Boyo is such a budding hipster that he even has his own hashtag, which he very carefully wrote in his neatest hand on his artwork. He styled his artwork for me to Instagram. Bless him.
Boyo started off his photography with his daily task – Mama’s Everyday Style photo. I’m wearing Seed Heritage ankle boots, Katies ponte and leatherette leggings, Millers Fashion sweater dress, Styling Sparkles necklace by Formed Design Co, Sterling & Hyde bag and a vintage fox-fur collar wool coat with the most darling giant wooden buttons.
Speaking of vintage, how retro cute is this gorgeous hunk? I fell in love with The Nighthawk Diner‘s International truck. Isn’t he gorgeous!
I spent most of my time taking photos of Boyo taking photos. I thought he was so adorably serious.
Ooh look! McKean Studio and their gorgeous City Bangles! The Blokefok gave me their darling London silk scarf for Christmas. I’d love the London bangle for my birthday. The Sydney one would be gorgeous too. Ooh, be careful! Massive hints are dropping from the sky!
Finders Keepers | what we bought
Boyo and I just couldn’t resist a little spot of shopping. From Sweets Workshop, I bought a divine dodo and flamingo card which is heading for a frame on my desk any minute now. Boyo chose an Attack of the Pizza poster for his room. If the child could live on pizza, he surely would.
I met the lovely Sophie from Scoops Design at a Blog Society & abcd Social event last year. If you don’t know of her gorgeous creations, then quick, get on it! I treated myself to this gorgeous red and cream resin necklace. I commented that it looked like the lovechild of a Maori carving and vintage lace, but it is created from typography. Lots of Os. Isn’t that clever? It certainly made me go oh!
Some cute as a button hand drawn Me&Yu fruity button badges. I really, really wanted the pineapple sweatshirt too. Another thing for the birthday wish list, I think? The most gorgeous couple make up Me&Yu, newly moved to Sydney from Manchester, and they reckon they had the best bargain of the entire markets. Two badges for $1! I reckon they’re right.
Last but not least, I just couldn’t walk past this darling little vintage bunny egg cup. A vintage embroidered doily needed to come home with me too, don’t you think?
As much as I love soaking in the creativity of the Finders Keepers Markets, the thing I loved the most was soaking up some one on one time with Boyo. He’s at that gorgeous age where he’s terribly independent yet isn’t too embarrassed to hang out with his parents. Still can’t quite believe I’m lucky enough to be his Mama.
