kimba likes holidays!
I’m about to head off on holiday for a couple of weeks. Off to the Land of the Long White Cloud. A few days in Christchurch with my family, a couple of days in Akaroa on the Banks Peninsula (the knobbly bit on the east side of the South Island) for some sightseeing and swimming with dolphins, and a week in Queenstown.
The Blokefolk plan to throw themselves off perfectly good bridges, go quadbiking, ziplining and I plan to let them enjoy that. The Heritage day spa is far more my speed.
christmas and new year’s eve
We had a very relaxing Christmas with just the three of us, and enough food for at least six of us. Tonnes of pressies too. The Welshman gave me a beautiful pair of Art Deco-style sterling silver earrings, a Marc Jacobs Beauty lipstick coffret in a divine pink clutch, tickets to see Justin Hamilton, a half share in a barrel of whiskey, and other lovely bits and pieces.
Unfortunately, Boyo was sick with a throat infection, and I had a virus and sinusitis. Killer combo!
I had a little rash on my neck on Christmas Eve, and by New Year’s Eve, it was forehead to belly button. It was caused by the virus, and I had an allergic reaction to the antihistamines. I was so hot right now. Literally.
I managed to drag myself out of bed and head to Goat Island for NYE for the most spectacular fireworks display we have ever experienced. With a little Pimm’s pit stop in King Street Wharf whilst waiting for the ferry.
We celebrated the Welshman’s birthday with a trip to the zoo, a family movie and some rather fabulous pressies, if I do say so myself. Hard work, sourcing two lots of excellent gifts a week apart.

We are trialling Mad Paws pet sitting service whilst we are away. A lovely lady will visit us daily to look after the Bunny Bros and Mini Guineas. The service connects pet sitters and owners, and provides insurance. Payment is made in advance, and payment is released when the owners return. This will change our life!
la la land movie review
So … can we talk about La La Land? I la la loved it! Luffed it!
Emma Stone is all luminous Bambi eyed adorkableness, and Ryan Hey Girl Gosling? Say no more. He’s serving extremely smooth rough trade Cary Grant.
Plus there’s tap dancing. And jazz. And Warner back lot. Rebel Without a Cause. Costumes on point. Retrocute suited and booted … and the frocks!
It’s the new cult classic. Make it happen and see it now!
kimba likes word of 2017
I honestly can’t remember what my word of the year last year was. Clearly, it had a great impact on me. This year, I’ve gone with a phrase. Kia Kaha. A Māori phrase meaning stay strong. If I ever get around to it, I will get it tattooed on me.
After dealing with a life changing hysterectomy in 2016, I had precancerous bowel polyps removed in 2o17. The internal bleeding from these little unwanted guests caused me to have very low iron levels which has all sorts of charming side effects. As does the treatment. Pass the fibre.
Luckily, they were still precancerous. Less fortunately, my autoimmune disease returned. Luckily, we caught it very early and it is slowly returning to remission status. My PMDD returned with a vengeance and anxiety decided to join the party.
I plan to keep my Silver Lining Girl view on the world, put myself on my priority list, and keep working towards recovery and regaining physical and emotional strength.
I need to stay strong, physically as well as emotionally, for me as much as for the people I love.

No blog posts until January 25, for the first Wardrobe Wednesday of the year, but I will be sharing some fabulous fashion with you whilst I’m on holidays on Instagram. I’ve got gorgeousness from Lucciola, Rasaleela and Birdsnest to share with you. They’ve sent me some lovely things to holiday in style and I can’t wait to share them with you.
