Love New Hair Yeah Yeah week when Boyo and I visit Stevie English for our long overdue new hair dos. I know when it’s time for Boyo to get a haircut – when he perfects a hair toss fringe blow combo. For me, it’s when my hair just will not follow instructions and my blonde hairline looks grey whilst my light brown roots look black against the contrast of my coppery dye job.
New season calls for complete new dos. Boyo loves a cool do and he is quite fond of not looking the same as everyone else. Hmmm, wonder who he gets that from? After talking him out of a reverse mohawk (shaved down the middle of his head) and “really short on the front and long at the back” (um, no mullets in this family dude), the lovely Lee suggested a combover do. Thank goodness. She did a great job, huh? Lee has the cutest pink bob and rocks a hairbow. Clearly a girl after my own heart.
Armed with Unite Creamy Paste and my trusty Mason Pearson styling comb, I now spend more time styling Boyo’s hair every morning than my own.
That’s testament to how easy my curls are to look after rather than an indictment against the combover style. I can literally whack some Original Mineral Style Guru styling cream in my hair, comb my part into place, twist a few curls into place by twirling them around my finger and leave it to dry. Ultimate Lazy Girl hair.
For Boyo, I whack some product on my palms, work it through his hair, blast it with the hairdryer and comb it into place. It doesn’t stay schmick all school day, with the No Hat No Play policy firmly in place, but the product helps keep his hair out of his eyes whilst maintaining some cool dude skater Boyo style.
There is something so fabulous about fresh colour, isn’t there? So shiny, so vibrant! I get my colour topped up with some colour toner added to my conditioner. I was awaiting the unveiling after my shampooing when my Instagram account flashed up with a What I’m Doing Now tag. Hello new hair yeah yeah!
Even though I love love love my curly bob, a girl still needs a change once in a while. Jyle Spice (who has actually met most of the Spice Girls!) was given free rein, and this is what he came up with. Total guru, right? Shaped beautifully at the back to take the bulky weight out, it is shorter on the left side with more length on the right side, creating a flattering effect. The hairline at the nape is left natural, to create a softer look.
The Welshman got a chop this week too. I do love him with short hair. He looks even more boyishly handsome than usual. He is strictly a barber boy though.
Do you get bulk haircuts in your house too?
