No Muffin Top Skinny Jeans

Kimba Likes No Muffin Top Skinny Jeans featuring Katies, Jay Jays, Just Jeans and Harlow @kimbalikes #kimbalikes

The weather has cooled down and it’s time to layer up again.  Skinny jeans are a great winter base layer, because they tuck perfectly into knee high boots.  They keep you warm and look cool at the same time.  Love that!

One of my favourite winter go to outfits is a pair of boots, skinny jeans, a long line fitted T shirt and a hi lo knit – with a snuggly scarf, of course.  On cooler days, a coat or long line cardigan adds extra warmth.

All those layers can add volume and make you look bigger than you really are – and nobody wants that. It’s important to keep the base layers as smooth and sleek as possible.  Minimising bulk is what we are after.  Muffin tops are only something acceptable on muffins, right?

Sizing up and belting isn’t a great option when you want to layer over the top of skinny jeans – the bulge isn’t a good look.

A decent pair of smoothing knickers and a smoothing cami is a good idea, but for my money, you’re better off with a pair of jeans designed to do the work for you!  Bring on the no muffin top skinny jeans!

No Muffin Top Skinny Jeans | Katies Super Shaper

I’ve got a new jeans BFF – the Katies Super Shaper.  Honestly, the slimmingest (is so a word) skinny jeans ever. I received a pair as a gift after I viewed the Katies AW15 collection a few months ago.

  • 5 colours | Berry, Khaki, Indigo, Dark Denim, Black I have dark denim and black
  • High waisted double layer waistband to flatten tummy – yep, disappears! Just like magic.
  • High power stretchy fabric with no sag – really, truly.  The fabric isn’t too thick nor too thin – just right.
  • Engineered seams to lift and shape your behind – ohai there bootylicious!
  • Side zip shapes your waist – no front fastening helps smooth your tummy, and makes putting them on easier!
  • Slimming – cut to follow the natural shape of legs for a streamlined fit. I went down a size in the dark denim (standard size in the black denim) so I’m kinda thinking the slimming thing might just be true!

A high rise jean in a stretchy denim fabrication is a muffin top ninja.  A mid rise might work better for people with short waists.

Also available in Paint It Black Skinny Leg Black Denim

Harlow has teamed up with @denimsmith to create the perfect skinny leg jean.  If your jeans fit perfectly, your muffin top will disappear!

Harlow are an Australian plus size label, who offer sizes 12-24.  Offering innovative, cool and non-Nanna clothing, they’re a go to for girls like me.  We’re not plus size but we have curves that often aren’t catered for in standard high street and designer brands alike.

These are an investment piece.  Click here to see what Nikki from Styling You has to say about them

Just Jeans Slim N Flatten Jean

$79.95 | sizes 6-18 | click to shop

I haven’t tried these babies, but I’ve had them recommended to me by a lovely reader.  They’re a high rise skinny jean with a tummy control panel to flatten your tummy.  A wide waistband and fake pockets adds to the magic tricks to give you a slimmer silhouette and zap muffin tops!

Katies Super Shaper Jeans

$49.95 | sizes 8-18 | click to shop

I love love love my Katies Ultimate Jeans, but I’m afraid they’re now the bridesmaid to my Katies Super Shaper bride!  The side zip makes them so easy to get on and they make my legs look longer and leaner, as well as completely getting rid of my muffin toppage issues.

I received the black pair as a gift from Katies, and was so impressed I bought a pair of dark denim Super Shapers too.  I’m pretty sure I’m going back to get the berry pair too.

Black denim is overdyed to get that really deep dark colour and therefore many people find they need a bigger size in black denim.  I wore my size in black, but a size down in the dark denim.

What are your muffin top tips for wearing skinny jeans?

Hmmm, I think I need this in my life! I know I may sound weird but even “skinny” people have little baby fats that we like to hide. LOL

    • Kimba - 30 April 2015 - 5.13 pm

Doesn’t sound weird at all. Some bigger people are perfectly in proportion too. That’s not weird either.ReplyCancel

I love a skinny jean that’s not too tight around the waist. I have a belly that needs all the help it needs, without compromising my love handles. I love my Katies jeans for this reason as they don’t push my love over the waist band. 🙂ReplyCancel

    • Kimba - 30 April 2015 - 5.14 pm

So true! So many clothes that make the tummy taming promise sort out your tummy – at the expense of your lovehandles!ReplyCancel

Oh I do love me a skinny jean – especially one with a higher waist and just the right amount of stretch to eliminate any risk of muffin top. Brilliant round-up, ladycakes! xReplyCancel

I bought a pair of those Katies Super Shaper jeans in black. I was looking for a cheaper option than an investment brand. And the Super Shapers are fantastic! Love them. And I went down a size. Psychological boost there! Definitely worth trying a pair on in store ladies. They are very comfy.ReplyCancel

  • A Quirky Bird - 28 April 2015 - 9.02 pm

I do tnd to search for high-waisted skinny jeans and like you I wear a bagger top to balance out proprtions. But, hello those Katies jeans are amazing and so awesomely priced.

Oowh oowh I’ve got the same Bohemian Traders top in my post too. But I had to dye it after a mystery stain.

I agree with Bev, berry would look stunning on you. Zoe xxReplyCancel
