Have you tried IPL hair removal before? Every shopping mall has a laser salon and every time I walk past, I’ve made myself a little mental note.  Life would be nice without constant shaving, right?

But … the time commitment, the months of cash outlay and the fear factor of the unknown all combined to put me off.

When I was offered the opportunity to trial the Philip Lumea Comfort IPL hair removal system, it seemed to be the perfect solution.

The Philips Lumea Comfort is a hair removal system that applies gentle pulses of light to the hair root, that you can use at home.  The IPL (intense pulsed light) works to slow down hair regrowth.  With repetition, body and facial hair sheds naturally and regrowth is inhibited.

The time commitment? Well, 22 minutes to treat your lower legs – with no driving time, no hassle finding a park and no time constraints by salon opening hours? Sounds pretty sweet to me.

Priced at $549.95 RRP, it’s cost effective.  Four to six treatments are required to remain practically hair free.  At an average price of $99 per treatment for lower legs laser hair removal, it more than pays for itself.  Occasional maintenance treatments can be done once the initial treatment period is completed.  Plus, it’s not just hair free legs.  You can treat facial hair, underarms, bikini lines.

Oh, and it’s perfect for your man too.  Ever wanted to sort out his fluffy back?!

As for the unknown factor? Well, all my questions were answered by the extensive information provided with the device, and the online information on the Philips website.

Let’s talk about using the Philips Lumea Comfort IPL hair removal system.

Philips Lumea Comfort | what they say

As an affordable and compact at-home hair removal system, the Philips Lumea Comfort works wonders to effectively prevent the reappearance of hair regrowth on the face as well as body.

Gentle pulses of light when applied regularly can keep your skin feeling silky-smooth every day.

Perfect for women with dark hair and medium to light complexion, the Philips Lumea Comfort is a safe, painless and easy way to maintain smooth pretty skin all year around.

Philips Lumea Comfort | what Kimba says

The Philips Lumea Comfort has no hidden costs – you don’t need to keep buying products or parts to use with it.  It will save you money in the long run too – we love that!

I was worried about the ease of use – and it couldn’t have been easier.  The adjustable light settings and Skin Colour Sensor make it super easy to maintain a comfort level with effective treatment.  The Slide & Flash mode was easy for continuous use, and helped to make the guiding of the device super simple.

The Philips Lumea Comfort fits comfortably into my hand – even my poor little swollen sore hands.  The flash is extremely bright but I found I got used to it pretty quickly.

My hair removal cycle, of four fortnightly sessions, will take a little longer.  I had my endometriosis removal and hysterectomy surgery in the midst of my treatment, so I had to miss a couple of sessions.  But I’m back on track – and I’m going to be beautifully fuzz free for summer.  Oh, and, you know, forever!

Ok, I’m sold! Having had laser on my underarms AGES ago (and it worked really well) I’d love to be able to do my legs and bikini at home. And I LOVE the tip for my guy’s back! I have to wax him because he refuses to let anyone else see, so this would solve that problem and he would be so much happier – he gets quite self-conscious about it.ReplyCancel

Have you seen the show Bob’s Burgers? In one episode, 13-year-old Tina is trying to shave her legs for the first time, so her dad takes her to get her legs waxed because he doesn’t know how to help her shave them. She gets really nervous, so as a show of support her dad gets his waxed with her – then the younger brother gets jealous and so he gets his done too! In the end, Tina learns to love her body hair. It’s a hilarious episode and a perfect example of body positivity/good fathering.ReplyCancel

I had my under arms waxed for a wedding in which I was a bridesmaid and had a bad reaction. Even though I had it done 4 days before the wedding I still had very sore red lumps. There’s one photo where we are all pretending to catch the bouquet and my arms are firmly clasped to my sides. I look like a T-Rex trying to catch it…ReplyCancel

Not sure if it’s a funny story or not but I could probably grow a beard, LOL maybe I can join the circus as the bearded lady?!ReplyCancel

I booked in for a bikini wax once and you should have seen the look of horror on the young girls face when she saw I was pregnant. I wasn’t after a Brazilian or anything, the lady garden just needed a trim before the big show. She proceeded to do the dodgiest job that I had to fix up when I got home using a hand mirror! I don’t know if I have a funny story about hair removal. Plenty of mortifying ones though! Like the time my then 3 year old yelled out in the shopping centre “mum has a beard like daddy!” And I thought I’d managed to tweeze it all. Thanks PCOS! Hahaha. ReplyCancel

Trying to shave my lady area in preparation for child birth – with a huge tummy obscuring my efforts – what was I thinking?! And then my baby was 10 days overdue so I had to do it all over again! Second baby I decided that au naturale was the way to go…ReplyCancel

I was wondering about these. Good to know that my skin/hair tone is ideal for these. I’ve always found hair removal to be a bothersome process. Most procedures on me end up in ingrown nasties.. UGH. IPL would certainly solve that.ReplyCancel

  • Carmen@PaintPowderandPolish - 13 November 2015 - 12.03 pm

Oh to never shave again would be bliss. I tried the epilady for a while, by the pain of ripping out the hairs by the roots on a regular basis just got too much. Would love to give laser a go!.ReplyCancel

  • Kelley @ magnetoboldtoo - 13 November 2015 - 11.59 am

sounds much better than my brief flirtation with waxing when I stuck not only my armpits together but also my lady bits. Had to wait for that shizzle to WEAR OFF.

Also I reckon I could give my husbands back a good going over… yeah?ReplyCancel
