I’m sharing my Winter Luxe outfit, starring a cosy sweater dress, jeans and boots combo. Plus a ridonkulously fun fur pom pom hat from Alannah Hill. Honestly, it is so cute and quirky that who else could it be by?
Shop the Closet is a series all about sharing the story of the pieces in my outfit and trialling new ways to wear old favourites.
I know it is nearly spring, but my goodness, winter returned with a bang on this day. I was awake half the night with a very noisy rain storm pounding on our roof. Thank goodness for makeup!

I’ve pulled out some old favourites from my winter wardrobe to combat the freezing cold wind. I’ve teamed my favourite NYDJ skinnies with my Seed Heritage ankle boots, and layer upon layer upon layer, like a Sara Lee Danish! A cute hat and some pops of colour and I’m good to go.
The jeans are light enough to wear trans seasonally, and are a great base to many outfits. The boots go with everything from jeans to printed pants to skirts and dresses. They really are that versatile. I am not a fan of black – I love colour too much. But some pieces are such wardrobe classics that I’m willing to overlook it!
My merino sweater dress is oh so flattering – the variegated stripes are my style secret. They add much needed shape to my no waist figure. The cropped jacket, apart from being oh so cute, performs another fashion magic trick, by visually narrowing my figure. Love that!
All about my outfit
I had long wanted a pair of NYDJs but I couldn’t justify the $250 price when I could clearly see them on overseas websites for about $100. For the exact same item. What’s with that?
I stalked various online suppliers and finally lucked into a clearance sale at the TVSN website a couple of years ago. I selected the Janice legging in dark wash. Because of the clever suck ’em innage of NYDJ, and the American sizing, I’m wearing a 4. I know it shouldn’t but it does give me a wee thrill every time I pop them on.
Two more pairs made their way home with me from our American trip last year. Hello Nordstroms! What a lovely shopping experience that was.
I layered a Sussan long line tee in cobalt under my Ezibuy striped merino sweater dress. The Sussan long line tees are my winter wardrobe staples. They add an extra layer of warmth, act as a slip under dresses and are a total bargain.
My sweater dress is in classic navy and grey variegated stripes, with a contrasting red stripe and zip pocket details. It is a few years old but makes an appearance every winter.
Simply adore my Ben Sherman tweed jacket. It is a cropped swing jacket with fabulous retro cute styling. Purchased from a vintage boutique, it is just so much fun – and snuggly warm too.

What a ridonkulously cute hat! It is just so silly that it makes me feel happy! I thrifted it brand new with tags a few years ago when I was volunteering at Red Cross Rozelle. The fur pom poms add that extra bit of fun to a grey dull day.
My Seed black ankle boots have made many guest star appearances on Kimba Likes. I couldn’t justify the outlay on a pair of Acne Pistols, so I was thrilled to find this inspired pair at Seed a few winters ago. Especially as they were on sale!
Yellow is the colour pop of choice! I’ve teamed my Mimco Jalabee watch with my Witchery studded wallet. The watch was a birthday gift from me to me, utilising my Mimcollective birthday voucher. Fabulous daily reminders of my Big Four Oh My Gods!
What are your favourite winter staples? Love a striped sweater dress too?
