This post is brought to you by Super Amart
Super Amart very kindly offered me $200 for an outdoor living makeover. Yes please! Let me tell you about our little space.
We live in the inner west of Sydney in a modern terrace with a teensy weensy courtyard garden. A little bit of paved space, a pocket handkertchief lawn and garden beds. It’s our little urban oasis – in a style I like to call tropage. That’s tropical cottage garden, in case you were wondering.
Our tropage garden is layered with palm trees, ferns, succulents, cobalt blue pots, cacti, bromeliads and frangipani. A Chinese star jasmine wall adds a green lushness and a heavenly scent in the summer. It’s a really gorgeous place to hang out, and in warmer weather, we treat it as another living space.
To make the most of our outdoor living space, every inch of space is utilised. The Bunny Bros have an undercover hutch and open run. The Welshman’s barbecue needs pride of place – if you were lucky enough to taste his cooking, you’d understand.
My wall garden makes the most of the limited space by adding a touch of practical whimsy. Vintage 50s planters are hung cheek by jowl with baskets and birdcages on my wall. My herb garden is safe from little fluffy marauders, and looks pretty to boot, on the garden wall.
We managed to survive the whole summer without an outdoor table. I know, right? It’s practically un-Australian!
We’ve been looking for one for a while. The perfect table needed to be weather proof, seat four to six people yet be compact.
It needed to be light enough to relocate onto the lawn if we needed more space, yet sturdy enough to not blow over in a strong wind. Ideally, it wouldn’t need too much in the way of maintenance, and fit seamlessly into our space without taking it over.
The Welshman and I took a trip out to Super Amart whilst Boyo was hanging out with a mate. Some time hanging out by ourselves? Yes please!
We hit the outdoor department and checked out all the goodies. The furniture displays were set up so we could imagine ourselves hanging out at home. The prices? Let’s just say we were very impressed. I do love a bargain!
We debated several options – despite needing a table, we very nearly came home with a wooden sun lounger, or a sweetheart chair and table combo. I fell hard for some super pretty retro cute iron furniture too.
Eventually, common sense (and the Welshman, of course) intervened and we were back to assessing outdoor tables.
We selected a rectangular metal and glass table. Light but strong, it worked back well with our existing chairs. We can seat up to 6 people, by utilising the table ends. As it can be hosed down, it’s also super practical. The glass top lets light through and is made of tempered safety glass.
To add to the existing fun and quirky theme of our tropage garden, we selected some bright and cheerful accessories. A bright red metal Moroccan-style lantern, a blue glass hurricane vase and candle holder, and glass & metal tea light holder to tie back to the table. Red striped placemats and a colourful woven mat to coordinate with our existing yellow lawn chairs and cobalt garden pots, as well as the new table decor pieces.
When we’re not outside enjoying the table, these pretty pieces have integrated seamlessly into our interior decor.
