what Kimba wore | wearing black and white
I love being part of the fabulous and inspirational style communities on social media. I can always find ideas about what to wear, and inspiration on how to mix and match existing pieces in my wardrobe to create new outfits. Plus the shopping suggestions, of course!
But I actually like to also get inspiration for my own style from, well, my own style! I file my social media photos to a Tumblr account and I like to flick through to see patterns. I can search the same time period in previous years too.
I noticed a theme in my recent outfits; one that caught me by surprise! I seem to have been wearing a lot of denim jackets – no, that’s not the surprise. I’ve been wearing black and white! A lot of black and white. I know right?!
I’m sharing two recent outfits featuring me wearing black and white. And denim jackets, coincidentally!
wearing black and white | retro cute gingham
For the #gagaforgingham prompt for Spring Style File 14 day style challenge, I debuted a deliciously retrocute gingham full skirt in classic black and white. It’s Hell Bunny from an eBay UK store. Just quietly, it was about a third of the retail price in Australia.
It was screaming out for a petticoat. Luckily, I had managed to snaffle the most divine 1950s vintage crinoline just the day before! My frequent offerings to the thrifting gods clearly paid off!
I added my Gorman Love is Love T shirt; a fabulous marriage equality promotion. My darling husband, whom I’ve been happily married to since 2002, queued up for over an hour to try and secure one for me. He was third from the front when the last one was given away. That evening, I was able to order a second release giveaway T shirt. I don’t think I’ve ever refreshed a screen quite so frequently.
I added my Monika Forsberg X Gorman Best Buds earrings and hairbow; a fabulous Sussan denim jacket thrifted from Goodwill Lane Cove; pop of colour Kate Spade bag gifted by Shopbop; and Adidas Superstars with Rubi gingham laces.
One of the reasons that I’m so keen on marriage equality, apart from just not being an arsehat and basic human rights, is that the act of celebrating your creation of a new family unit with a ceremony and celebration and the requisite paperwork is such a rite of passage. Such a special moment to share with your loved ones. I want this for all couples. I haven’t come across a cogent argument to not have marriage equality in Australia so my plea is to use your power wisely and “vote” yes in this complete-waste-of-money-and-insult-to-common-decency poll.
wearing black and white | sing me a song
Another day, another Gorman item. Yes, I confess. I have an obsession, an addiction, a deep abiding love for all that is Gorman. And I’m perfectly OK with that!
I teamed my new Monika Forsberg x Gorman Music Notes Swing Dress with matchy matchy Soiree earrings from the same collection. It’s in the most divine silk fabric with the most flattering swing design.
Another day, another denim jacket thrifted from Goodwill Lane Cove! This one is by fabulous New Zealand label Verge with lined sleeves for ultimate cuffing and military styling.
Shoesday Tuesday and our Spring Style File prompt was #spotmyshoesstyle with uber style babe Sally from Spot My Style.
These practically-brand-new-worn-once-if-at-all lace up Gorman suede flats are a recent eBay acquisition. I popped a pair of palest pink footsies on first. I think next time it’s going to have to be a patterned or coloured pair. Fashion is fun after all!
Denim, black and white, and a pop of colour? Works for me! Where you do you get your fash inspiration from?
