Wearing Winter Luxe | Leather Jacket

The Winter Luxe Style Challenge is officially over.  Don’t cue the sad panda face, because lots of amazingly gorgeous and stylish women enjoyed it so much that they are continuing to play along.  I couldn’t be more thrilled!

I adore Instagram and this just makes me love it even more.  My Instagram feed is filled with smiling, confident women rocking fabulous fashion with a touch of winter luxe, happily showcasing their personal style.

The Winter Luxe Style Challenge has been an amazing way to welcome winter.  In so many parts of Australia, it was unseasonably warm in the weeks leading up to winter.  When winter finally hit, it was with the impact of a snowball!

My love for winter style kicked off the whole Winter Luxe Style Challenge, so it is safe to say that winter is my favourite season in terms of style.  Spring and autumn with their warm days, cool nights and gorgeous foliage are pretty special too.

I have been waiting a long time for the weather to cool down enough for me to rock one of my very favourite winter pieces, my vintage Morrissey cropped leather jacket.  I customised the jacket with some very pretty fabric covered buttons from Liberty of London.  Just love the tough pretty aesthetic.

I’ve also been waiting for months to be able to wear my new winter hat.  I do adore hats, love rich wintry colours and I’m not scared of a bit of quirky style either.  Et voila, my equestrian style maroon wool felt hat with … wait for it … ears!

I found this baby in my local op shop, but I’ve managed to track down a similar style if you need a hat with ears in your life too.

The gorgeous merlot tone of the hat works back beautifully with mustard, as worn in my Ruby Olive earrings.  The black statement necklace was a recent addition from my Her Fashion Box subscription. Click to get $5 off your first Her Fashion Box.

I’m wearing a Bohemian Traders Peasant plaid shirt layered under a vintage merino men’s mustard Argyle knitted vest topped with my Morrissey cropped leather jacket.  If you’re busty, you may struggle with gaping shirts.  A vest or jumper layered over a shirt sorts this problem in style.

My vest employs another fashion magic trick with the V neck drawing the eye down.  Leaving the bottom  unbuttoned creates a peplum effect, which  narrows the waist.  It has the added benefit of showing off the gorgeous plaid fabric of my shirt.

The streamlined style of the collarless leather jacket is flattering on my busty figure as it doesn’t add bulk.  The lack of collar also means that my statement necklace is showcased beautifully.

My Bohemian Traders black skinny jeans are comfy, flattering and on trend.  I love a mid rise waist.  They’re the Goldilocks cut of jeans – not too high, not too low, but just right.  I like to think they make me both hot and cool, though!  See what I did there?  They work beautifully with ankle boots, like my Nine West cuffed boots, but I’ve also worn them with trainers, hi tops, loafers, brogues and ballet flats.

Whilst I love some coordinating colour, I’m not a fan of matchy matchy.  Let me show you what I’m talking about with my Kimba Likes Style Guide.

My classic basic is my Bohemian Traders black skinny jeans.  My something colourful is my Bohemian Traders plaid shirt.  My Ruby Olive earrings and Argyle vest coordinate.  The black statement necklace and black leather jacket also coordinate with the black jeans.

My clashing piece is my merlot wool felt hat.  Although the colours work beautifully together, it is not matched to another colour in my outfit.

For the purposes of the Kimba Likes Style Guide, clashing has a somewhat flexible meaning.  Your clashing piece could be a denim jacket worn with a tulle skirt, or sequins worn with jeans.  The idea is to create a point of interest which lifts your outfit from everyday to Everyday Style!
