Weekend Style | 50th birthday party

Kimba Likes Weekend Style | sharing what I wore and what we did in the weekend #kimbalikes #weekendstyle

How was your weekend? Our weekend style was relaxed and comfortable, with a very busy Saturday, and a super relaxed Sunday.

Our Saturday was all about Boyo’s social life.  Playdates are no longer.  It’s hangouts now for too cool for school tweens, and scooter tricks, Wii, and Minecraft the order of the day.

In the evening, we left Boyo with his delightful sitter, and headed off to celebrate the 50th birthday of our friend.  Their family are also expats, so as expats tend to do, we have created our own families.  Friends-who-are-family.

In some nice synchronicity, the Welshman helped set up his 40th party, and was there again this year, helping with the set up for his 50th.  It’s what family does, right?

Saturday Style

Weekend Style | Saturday

During the day, my Saturday weekend style was uber relaxed with a pop of colour.  I layered a bright orange mesh Country Road cardigan over a Bella Bodies Long Sleeved Camyz top, and then popped my Three Parsons Aztec Cape Jacket (run don’t walk to grab the final ones on sale!) over the top.  My recent thrifted find of a perfectly worn in pair of men’s Levi’s and a pair of Missoni for Target black and white ballet flats completed my outfit.

My Lazy Girl beauty tricks came into play.  I left my hair to air dry, and wore minimal makeup so it was easy to top up and add some glam slam for our evening out.

I added a shimmery peach eye with a perfect catseye liner job, a pop of colour on the cheeks, a touch of highlighter, and a pinky nude lip.  My brows were still holding up ok from the morning’s application of Anastasia Beverly Hills Brow Pomade, so I let them be!

Liquid liner is not my forte, so yes, I am justifiably proud of my perfect job.  L’Oreal Paris Superliner So Couture Eye Liner did the trick for me.  It’s super black, super fine and so easy to use.

A quick spray with Oribe Dry Texturising Spray, to add volume and texture with a little rockstar tousle, and a sparkly hairpin from my beloved Anthropologie, and my hair was good to go.

I can’t find a stockist link for my new hair BFF product, but I nabbed mine at Stevie English Salon.  It acts like a dry shampoo, but without the powdery residue some of them can leave in your hair.  Plus it adds texture and volume and the scent is divine!  Not cheap, but worth every single cent.

The cooler evening weather was the driving force behind my weekend style date night outfit.  I selected a Seed ponte dress with faux leather shoulder detail that I purchased the previous year and just hadn’t worn yet.  As it’s quite a fitted style, I started with a Bella Bodies Camyz Shaper as my base layer.

I defined my waist – always my bete noire – with a City Chic faux leather obi-style belt, and kept my legs nice and toasty with Leona Edmiston red heart-patterned black opaques. My knee high boots are from Country Road.  I’m channeling Dumas’ Three Musketeers with the flat, soft leather boots and their fold over tops.

I added my pimp daddy faux fur coat – an amazing bargain thrifted from a 75% off U Turn Vintage clearance sale at the end of winter last year.

I added some gorgeous earrings and a cocktail ring, which I received as a gift from Anna Nova, as well as my Usual Suspects Honeydew & Violet Organic Halo Bangle, wedding rings and Tiffany & Co Elsa Peretti Open Heart bangle. I added a Jet Empire Rock DJ bracelet with black beads, and a pearl and black crystal bracelet by Red Phoenix Emporium, because you know I love an arm party!

It was such a lovely party.  Lots of backyard dancing, lots of yummy food (such a treat having my allergies so well catered for), chatting to new friends, and catching up with old friends.  Plus the most amazing record player birthday cake for the music buff birthday dude.

We were the first to arrive, toting French Champagne, and the last to leave.  Love that!

Weekend Sunday

Weekend Style | Sunday

After a bit of a late night for the whole family, we had a slow and lazy start to the day on Sunday. I mean, what else is a weekend for, if not relaxing and hanging out as a family?

No hangovers in sight – thank goodness.  Just tired and in need of a sofa snuggle day. All three of us.  The Welshman is uber busy at work, and really needed an extra long sleep in.

But … once we’d finished reading all the papers, had a leisurely lunch, watched a movie and pottered around a bit, we were all bored as bored things.  Solution – a frisbee and a rugby ball, Bicentennial Park and some Sunday Funday family fun!

Comfort was key, with my Metalicus Romy Relaxed Fit Drawstring Pants (they’re on sale!) pretending they were leggings under my old favourite Sussan swing knit tunic. My Seed Heritage rose gold slip ons and my Witchery pewter tasselled mini barrel bag added a glam metallic edge to my casual outfit.

Oh, and check out my pop of colour! Loving Three Parsons AW15 collection – click here to check out my picks – including this gorgeous mustard Holey Snood Scarf.

My weekend style was all about colour and comfort during the day. I enjoyed stepping out of my comfort zone and wearing all black bodycon. I had to add my colour pops through my beautiful accessories.

There’s nothing better than hanging out with family, right? Especially for such a special occasion like celebrating being born half a century ago!
