It was a dark and stormy night … Not only a terribly cliched opening line for novels, but the weather for the Welshman’s Christmas party. The party was held at the MCA in a private room with a huge outside balcony with a direct view of Circular Quay, the Harbour Bridge and the Sydney Opera House. Luckily, the outdoor area, doubling as dancefloor and performance space for the band, was partially covered because it was absolutely chucking it down. Torrential cats and dogs type rain.
Christmas Party Style | what I wore
I teamed my lovely white lace dress, gifted from Boohoo’s The Edit collection, with fabulous navy and cream patent leather block heel sandals by Senso. I added some tough pretty with my Jessica Bratich studded box clutch.
I accessorised with Mimco pearl and crystal hairpins, pearl earrings from So Nailicious Boutique, gold and yellow sapphire Fortuna earrings from The Jewel Collective, freshwater pearl bracelet from Jet Empire Jewellery, white semiprecious stone bracelet from Red Phoenix Style and personalised stamped rose gold discs worn on a silver necklace from Avalise Jewellery.
One of the benefits of growing older is that one is likely to gain a little more sense. That’s the hope anyway. That’s certainly the school of thought behind my shoe choice. I still love a pointed toe far-too-high-heeled stiletto, but for the love of Taxi to Table Heels, I cannot walk in them. I can barely even manage the short stroll between taxi and table. There’s no way I can stand all night and dance in them. Like one does at a Christmas party. But I can’t throw them out. No way. They’re far too pretty!
When I spotted a sparkling new pair of Senso block heeled sandals in my local Red Cross op shop, I fell on them with glee. They were brand new. Tick. Navy. Tick. Patent leather. Tick. Block heeled. Tick. Comfortable? Tick! Oh and I parted with a mere $13 to buy them. I know right! Bang on trend, walkable and comfortable shoes for under $15? The op shop gods were smiling on me that day.
The patent navy and cream work back perfectly with the prettiness of the white lace dress and the pearl jewellery and hair pins. I do love a little tough pretty, and my Jessica Bratich studded box clutch with bejewelled ring handle fits the bill perfectly. It was definitely a talking piece. The girls loved it and all the boys were fascinated by it, and thought it would double as a good weapon. Boys. Honestly.

Christmas Party Style | SensatioNail Fuse Gelnamel
It is a running joke in my household that I never ever manage to go out to an event with polished nails. Not even events I’ve planned for months and months in advance. Glitter nail polish has been my saviour on many occasions. I can do one coat whilst I’m waiting for the taxi and it dries on the ride to the restaurant. I don’t recommend it though – talk about stressful!
On this occasion, I got myself organised and trialled my new SensatioNail Fuse Gelnamel nail system^. I received it as a gift with purchase from Innoxa. Oh my goodness! It is really rather fabulous!
How the whole nail thing usually goes down at my house is that I find time on one day to tidy my cuticles and file my nails. On the following day, I find time to paint my nails. I almost never find the right amount of time for them to dry properly. I’m aware of this, yet still have an issue with it.
Hola Fuse! The little bitty UV nail lamp instantly dries my nails, leaving me good to go. It takes a little more time than painting on two coats of standard nail lacquer, but completely cuts out the “can’t touch or do anything for an hour” drying time. Woo hoo!
La la love my gorgeous Welshman. He’s very handsome in his Ralph Lauren striped shirt, don’t you think? I make jokes about having to put on my Corporate Wife hat for the annual Christmas party, but I do have a lovely time every year, catching up with everyone.
