What I Wore : Work Xmas Party

It is that time of year – parties and celebrations right left and centre.  Party frocks, mad dancing and a determination to have a good time!  Here is what I wore for the Welshman’s Xmas Party.

Country Road Python Print Dress RRP $299

I took a bit of a risk and bought this silk python print Country Road dress online.  I wasn’t sure if it was going to be long enough or if I’d selected the correct size, but I loved the print and the price was right.  $29.95 down from the RRP of $299, less another 25%.  Bargain, even if it was a one shouldered ra ra dress!

Without the belt, I resembled a python printed ruffled bell with no hint of a waist whatsoever.  My trusty Leona Edmiston black leather snake print belt soon sorted out that issue.  I think I may take it to the alterationists and get the second ruffle sewn flat for future outings.

I teamed the dress with classic black suede platform pumps by Lipstik – that rare beast of a shoe that is walkable and danceable and driveable.  I did Gangnam Style, the Nutbush and even shuffled in them.  Sadly, no moshing opportunities presented themselves on the night, but I’m pretty sure the shoes would stand up to that too.

Nude fishnets were the finishing touch – I don’t know how people wear heels with bare feet.  Automatic blister territory for me.

I wore Samantha Wills earrings and carried a Mimco sequin envelope clutch in Merlot.

I was aiming for a glowing makeup look with a subtle smokey eye and prettily flushed cheeks.  My makeup is Illamasqua Satin Primer and Skin Base, set with Australis Ready Set Go finishing powder.  My cheeks are enhanced with Bobbi Brown Pink Peony powder and BECCA Pressed Shimmer Powder in Angel.  I’ve concealed with Estee Lauder Disappear creme concealer, and highlighted with BECCA Shimmering Skin Perfector in Opal and YSL Touche Eclat under my eyes.  My brows are defined with MAC Eye Brows pencil in Lingering.

My eyes are made up with Stila All Over Shimmer Duo in Kitten, my favourite MAC Satin Taupe eyeshadow and NARS Larger than Life Eyeliner in the bronze Via Appia.  I set the pencil eyeliner with the bronze sparkly shadow from the BECCA Balearic Love palette.  My lashes are defined by Napoleon Perdis Mesmer Eyes mascara.  I’m wearing MAC Lustre lipstick in Syrup, from the Back2MAC program.  Free lipstick and recycling is a winning combination.

It sounds like a lot of effort, but it only took about 10 minutes.  Drying my hair took longer than making up my face.

The party was held at the somewhat misleading Parkview room at Doltone House – there was a park but it was not viewable, due to there being no windows!  The food was fabulous, including an amazing lolly bar, the wine was apparently very good but I couldn’t vouch for it, being a non-drinker due to antibiotics cramping my style.  The company was the hands down (or is that hands in the air?) winner on the night.   I enjoyed meeting some new people, catching up with people I only ever see at the Welshman’s Xmas party and hanging out with our friends-who-are-family, who just happen to work at the same company.  Love that!

Have you had a fancy pants Xmas party yet?   Have you managed the find the holy grail of party shoes?

What a bargain! Amazing! Love it!

I am out for dinner tomorrow night – we are going to Aria in Brisbane. I just happened on a very cute black dress from Vinnies today and bought a great orange Collette necklace which works with it… I think I am going rock the frock and beads and be all smug about the price tag of my outfit! I will try not to look at the menu prices!!ReplyCancel

You look stunning in this outfit. I especially love the earrings. One can forgive the Parkview room for having a misleading name when there’s a lolly bar available 🙂ReplyCancel

I usually hate any kind of animal print…but I am loving this dress! And what a bargain! You look great! I found great shoes, but they only looked great. My feet were KILLING me after 4 hours and I may or may not have been THAT girl, walking through the casino parking lot, barefoot. Don’t judge me! 🙂ReplyCancel
