Chantelle of Fat Mum Slim posed the question “where do you blog?” in her latest BLOGversation post.
When I was an extremely part time newbie blogger, I wrote this post about where I blog, called my Office in a Box.
Now that I’m making a go of becoming a blogger who is earning (an albeit very small) income from my blogging activities, as well as working with some personal styling clients and my budding Mary Kay independent consultant business, I needed to create myself a proper working space.
I tried working in the mahoosive desk in our spare room, but it is more of an upright open filing cabinet than an inspiring working space. The daybed in the corner was far too tempting, plus the spare room (chillax room as Boyo calls it) houses the omnipresent ever reproducing ironing basket. Quite frankly, how is a girl supposed to work with that sort of temptation lying provocatively around the floor?
Next up was relocating myself back downstairs to the sofa and the laptop table. Perfectly comfortable but all my stuff was upstairs in the spare room. I moved various items of furniture all over the house but I couldn’t quite get it to work for me – or quite frankly, the Blokefolk. They live here too, after all. I tried working at Boyo’s homework desk but he is quite defensive of his space, and I still had no viable storage solutions. Plus all the Pokemon and LEGO was ruining my fashion vibe.
The perfect solution was a fab leather storage basket, with Selfridges paper bags as file holders. Worked fabulously – until I started to need more paperwork, more reference books, more brand information, more client files, more stationery …
I’ve now got a Kimba Likes shelf for all my reference books and files, an In Station (a little sidetable with a corkboard and mail tray), a little shelf unit with current Kimba Likes projects in basket files, and the piece de resistance, my gorgeous rescued Singer cabinet holds all my stationery and craft bits and pieces. I must get around to ordering myself some Chalk Paint and making my disparate vintage thrifted finds all retro cute and pretty. I just can’t decide which colour to choose!
So until I take over the world and get my own Executive Office complex complete with beauty salon with Vichy shower, Walk In Wardrobe Extraordinaire and two or three minions, I’ll continue to work on my lovely Lady Sofa. She is very pretty after all.
