In November 1992, the world changed forever when Edina Monsoon and Patsy Stone burst onto our small screens. It was essential viewing for this woman of the 90s.
The fabulous fashion – “It’s Lacroix, sweetie!”
The love hate relationships – Edina and Saffy, Edina and her mum, Patsy and Saffy …
Patsy’s drinking – “The last mosquito that bit me had to check into the Betty Ford Clinic.”
Patsy’s amazing insults – “She was so anally retentive she couldn’t sit down for fear of sucking up the furniture.”
Edina’s mothering of Saffy – “Why does everything you wear look like it’s bearing a grudge? You’ve got a wardrobe full of little murderers.”
Eddy’s PR job – “PR! I PR things! People. Places. Concepts.”
Patsy’s mag hag job – “The mood for the next edition: Sex, bitch, aristo, sex, punk, whore, bitch, prossie, lessie, punk, tart, slut. Oh but Alex … Alex, with lovely shoes.”
Bubble’s ditsy ways – “Ooh … bear with me, see, I am hopeless with names, faces and people.”
I adored the TV series, so you can imagine my excitement when I was invited to a gala premiere to see Absolutely Fabulous : The Movie by those lovely people at Nuffnang.
Sweetie darling, pour a Stoli and pass the Bolly, it’s time for my Absolutely Fabulous movie review!
Absolutely Fabulous movie review
The only thing better than a fun chick flick is seeing it with a fun chick. Sarah from She Writes was my plus one.
We enjoyed the luxury of Hoyts Lux, along with a glass or two of bubbles, popcorn and waiter service to our reclining spacious seats. Thanks Nuffnang!
The movie features the key characters we know and love … and is packed to the gunwales with celebrity cameos. Everyone from Alexa Chung to Barry Humphries to Joan Collins to Made in Chelsea’s Jamie. Plus, Kate Moss, absolutely everyone’s favourite. Who doesn’t love Mossy?!
There’s glitz and glamour, lots of shopping, drinking and schmoozing, smashing fashion and PR, sweetie!
Edina and Patsy are blamed for an incident that shakes the fashion industry, and are hounded relentlessly by the media. They flee to the French Riviera, playground of the rich and famous. Penniless pariahs isn’t a good look, so in typical Eddy and Patsy fashion, they hatch madcap schemes to fund their extravagant lifestyles.
It’s not the best movie you’re ever going to see, let’s be honest. The plot is as thin as Edina wishes she could be, and is padded as much as her infamous blow up bra.
Despite this, or perhaps because of it, the movie is a riot. Tonnes of fun and it goes off like a Bolly cork being popped!
Absolutely Fabulous movie review | the score
Absolutely Fabulous : The Movie gets a score of 61% on Rotten Tomatoes
My Absolutely Fabulous movie review rating is three and half glasses of Bolly out of five. Oh go on, I’ll add another half a glass just because it was so much fun having a fabulous trip down a rather fancy memory lane!
Are you going to see Absolutely Fabulous : The Movie? My tip is grab your GFs and enjoy a glass of bubbles whilst you enjoy the on screen froth! Girls Night Out!
