Recently I asked the question “can you wear a bikini in public?” on the fabulous mecca of all fashion knowledge known as Styling You. I was delighted and thrilled by the positive responses. Ladies who have never appeared in public in a bikini vowed to at least give it a go. Love that!
Sally, a Styling You reader, wanted to know why she couldn’t buy bikini tops designed like bras.
After reading this post, a lovely lady named Kylie van Wanrooy contacted me to share a little secret. She is the designer behind the fabulous vintage inspired swimwear label, Beyond the Sea Swimwear.
Kylie has more than 20 years of experience as a pattern maker. Like many fabulous products and labels, Beyond the Sea Swimwear was born out of frustration. Kylie simply couldn’t find functional yet flattering swimwear so she designed her own. Beyond the Sea Swimwear is inspired by glamorous pin up era girls – the style I like to call Retro Cute!

Kylie achieved her goal of flattering and functional swimwear but didn’t forget another wonderful F word – FUN! Fashion is fun after all!
Hanging out poolside and on the beach is lots of fun, but not if you feel uncomfortable or inadequately supported. Beyond the Sea Swimwear has the solution – excellent support for shapely figures with a retro cute fun twist.
I met Kylie at the recent December Finders Keepers Markets and was just thrilled with the quality and the attention to detail of the Beyond the Sea Swimwear range. Whilst we were having a quick chat, Kylie was absolutely besieged by purchasers. The girls I spoke to adored the retro styling, the fact that they could feel supported yet look cute at the same time, and delighted that they could buy something off the rack to fit, ahem, their rack.

Kylie was rocking a fabulous piece of Beyond the Sea Swimwear on the day, worn with jeans and a happy smile. Kylie knew she looked good and knew she was supported and comfortable – she is the perfect ambassador for her own label! Her outfit inspired me to create some outfits based Beyond the Sea Swimwear. Keep an eye out for another Smash the Fashion Rules post coming soon!
Beyond the Sea Swimwear chooses to feature size 12 models to make it easier for more women to imagine what they would look like in the swimwear. How cool is that? Beyond the Sea Swimwear features clever design features like adjustable ruching, pattern placement, removable straps, full lining, moulded bra cups and underwires. The cuts are supportive yet flattering. You won’t feel like a Nanna in them, but be careful because your Nanna might just steal them! They’re that good.
Locally made and proudly Australian-owned, Beyond the Sea Swimwear is available in select boutiques and online. Click here to Like Beyond the Sea Swimwear on Facebook. You might just find yourself a little Christmas gift there – a discount code!
I absolutely love the range and will be happily rocking my pin up girl style on the beach and poolside this summer with Beyond the Sea Swimwear. I’ll be swimming between the flags as well as flying the flag for a fabulous Australian company and celebrating body confidence in all shapes and sizes!
