Black and White is All Right

Kimba Likes Black and White is All Right

As a girl who loves colour, I’ve really been putting myself out of my comfort zone lately.  I’ve been finding myself drawn to black basics.  I’ve been buying white – everything from tops to accessories. I know.  I don’t know who I am either!

I teamed a white KatiesWaterfall Linen Jacket* with Bohemian Traders skinny jeans to attend the Esprit online store’s first birthday party at Wharf 4, Dawes Point.  Such a gorgeous spot!  I layered a Sportsgirl silk top in Acid (I can’t work out if it’s more green or yellow) over a Forever New white jersey tank with chiffon details.

I accessorised with Carlotta Beige peeptoe booties by New Look from Payless Shoes, a Marc by Marc Jacobs Classic Q Percy mini bag, Mimco Dinosauria rose gold spike clip and a Formed Design Co Tribal Findings white clay and copper necklace.  I do love my small but perfectly formed Percy mini bag, but she is so small I had to attach my key ring, complete with orange leather Sass & Bide tassel, to the handle.  That or leave my compact or glasses behind.

I’m wearing a gorgeous white broderie anglaise cold shoulder top by Three Parsons with a white Doily Necklace by Kenzie Accessories from Vintage Pip.  Click here to read more about this outfit at Wendy Mak, where I share weekly style tips and an OOTD for her Style Inspirations series.

I was invited to the launch of the new Qantas Economy dining experience, and plumped for dressy casual, with printed Ken Done for Something Else draped pants, teamed with a black BASIC 17 Sundays Cross Back Top^.  Read more about my Qantas dining experience later in the week.

I am wearing size Small in this plus size brand and it sits beautifully, whilst allowing room for my curves (read EnormoBoobs).  A little trick I picked up from my style guru, Nikki from Styling You.  The smaller end of plus size ranges is a great place to shop when you have generous curves on a size 12 – 16 figure.

I’ve accessorised with a white Marzio Florini rubber necklace, from The Back Room in Rozelle and black patent pointed toe heels, Janine by ComfortPlus from Payless Shoes.  Walkable heels that are actually comfortable.  I know right?

I’ve added pops of colour with my Megan McKean London City Bangle and my Chloden London handbag, from OzSale*.

Way to make a summer outfit pop and stay comfy at the same time?  Why, with my Diamond Mox*, of course.  I truly love my Mox – you should see the colour range!  I was wary of white shoes but Mox are the perfect white shoe.  They’re washable!  I’m wearing them with a new season Three Parsons top and Katies^ biker jeans* (now sold out).

One thing I’ve discovered about wearing white and black is that you can let your accessories really make a statement!  I’ve teamed this pretty white Lace Strap Crossback Top* from Katies^ (on sale to $29.95) with a simple cotton printed skirt from Part Two, purchased on a girly shopping trip with my sister in law many years ago in the UK.

I’m letting my feet do the talking as they do the walking with these super fun New Look Idol derby laceups from Payless Shoes.  Run don’t walk as they’re currently on sale to $10 in Pewter and Bronze. I’ve braided my fringe and side sections for a different look, which really shows off my cobalt and red beaded fan earrings from Bella Emporio, Rozelle.

I would have been quite happy to stay in bed on this day, but I had a meeting scheduled and had to look presentable.  The solution was this lovely black chiffon Country Road micropleated maxi skirt.  It’s oh so comfy, and teamed with my gold lurex Sussan top, it looks like I’d made an effort.  So hadn’t!

Another way I like to look like I’ve made an effort is with my hair.  Yesterday’s plaits combined with bedhead curls made for a Big Hair Yeah Yeah! hot mess moment this morning.  A trusty scarf tied as a hairbow and I was good to go.  I’m wearing an Anne Klein silk scarf which I picked up at OzSale* for $9 for 5 assorted scarves.  All silk.  All pretty.  What a score!

I couldn’t agree more – black and white are most definitely alright! 🙂 I find myself drawn to white most of the time, and if it weren’t for the existence of dirt and stains, I’d probably own much much more of it! I love how you tempered the graphic b&w with pops of color in all of your outfits. Black and white really accentuate the beautiful colors you’ve paired them with!

That is a handy tip about the small plus-sized tops. As someone who is small framed with a 12DD-E size rack, getting the tops right is often a challenge. I’ll suss this concept out soon!ReplyCancel

I own two white jackets, after 12 months they are still hanging in the wardrobe new with tag. They are about to join my Should it Stay or Should it GO NOW challenge. I’m not good with white but I’m always impressed when I see it in others.ReplyCancel
