Fox in Flats : Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare

The fabulous Andrea from Fox in Flats has been at it again, setting one of her famous patented Style Dares.  The latest one is called The Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare and is particularly close to my heart, as Breakfast at Tiffany’s is my absolute favourite movie of all time.

The Fox in Flats rules for the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare were very simple – dress as though inspired by Audrey Hepburn in the iconic opening scene from Breakfast at Tiffany’s – think little black dress, cats eye sunglasses, an up do, pearls, sparkles, maybe a tiara!

Whilst all this is super special and more than a little bit fabulous, the main message of the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare is “Always be the leading lady in your own life”.

It is easy to put yourself last when you’re a wife and mother.  These roles mean you work full time, whether or not you work outside the home or not.  Many of us spend much of our life putting other people first and leaving our needs to be the very last thing on our Ta Da Lists.

With her Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare, Andrea has reminded us to put ourselves first.  Try it for just one day and you may just realise that if you don’t look after yourself first, then how can you possibly look after everyone else?  Let’s change our thinking and realise that we are important, we are special and we do deserve our own time just as much as everyone else does.  Make yourself a priority!

Here’s my take on the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare.

I was already dressed in a patterned black and white dress by the time I found out about the Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare, so I added a very Audrey-esque black satin headpiece, accessorised with pearls, diamantes and silver baubles, and vowed to make a better attempt on the following day.

On my second attempt at the Breakfast at Tiffany’s dare, I wore a tiara and very Audrey-esque black Rayban Wayfarers with their gorgeously classic cats eye shape.  I’m afraid that my sprained back prohibited rummaging in my wardrobe to locate an as yet unworn Little Black Dress, so a merlot velvet-flocked dotty frock just had to do.  This day coincided with Halloween and the very last day of my mammoth Frocktober effort, as well as a hideously painful sprained back.  I’m very lucky I actually made it out of the house, let alone got  myself made up and dressed!

Did you participate in the Fox in Flats Breakfast at Tiffany’s Dare?  Keep an eye out for the next Fox in Flats patented Style Dare.  They are just so much fun.  Plus you just do not want to give Andrea the oppotunity to flap her arms and call you chicken!

I didn’t do it, boo hoo.. I don’t tink I’ve got anything at all like this in my wardrobe at all. BUT… I must say that I do approve of the theme of occasionally dressing up and really enjoying it. After 15 years of mum-ness I have got good at looking after myself… learned the hard way. LOVE the glasses!ReplyCancel

Looking after yourself is essential – I’m glad you do. Shame it was the hard way though!

The glasses have been cool since the 1950s, baby!ReplyCancel
