I do love a good date night! This one had been months in the planning.  The Welshman booked tickets in December to see Justin Hamilton’s Sydney Comedy Festival stand up show.  He gave me the tickets for Christmas, and a mere five months later, off we went to celebrate our 15th wedding anniversary.

Jeez, we are now officially old people! Fifteen years is a long looooong time.

I’m getting sentimental in my old age.  My daily arm party makes me feel the love – birthday present Tiffany & Co infinity bracelet, with recent Mother’s Day and wedding anniversary additions.

The traditional gift is crystal, and I received a gorgeous Pandora Ribbons of Love charm and limited edition bangle from the Welshman.  I gave the Welshman some stylin’ crystal whiskey glasses.  A pair for the two of us, and a set for dinner parties.

The Blokefolk gave me a sweet Disney heart charm for Mother’s Day too.  Minnie and I both love ourselves a hairbow!

We dropped our son off at his mate’s house at 4pm and by 4.30 pm, we were drinking beer at hipster heaven, Young Henry’s in Newtown.  I am not a big beer drinker but freshly brewed and poured pale ale craft beer will get me every time.  Plus it would be rude not to drink a beer called Newtowner whilst in Newtown, surely?

Next up, delicious Chinese snacks at Merivale’s newly glammed Queens Hotel.  A big shoutout to the staff for finding Kimba friendly food. It is a challenge.  We ate silken tofu, prawns and salt & pepper squid from the bar menu, and stir fried snow pea leaves with ginger and shaoxing, and scallop sashimi from Queen Chow, the glam Chinese restaurant on site.

I did have designs on the adorably retrocute Doughbox Diner, but firstly, it wasn’t open, and secondly, I was too hungry to wait an hour to eat. Plus, I really really fancied a cheeky cocktail. I mean, date night!  So the pub it was.

Feeling sick with sinus, the obvious cocktail choice was the Penicillin.  Chivas Regal, Laphroaig, Honey, Ginger, Lemon.  I don’t know if they were strictly medicinal, but a couple of those babies certainly made me feel better.

Then on to see the hilarious Justin Hamilton.  Laughed our arses off. We have seen him before opening for Wil Anderson, and I adore his podcast. Accompanied by a classy can of JD & cola from the hole in the wall bar.  Tasting notes – tastes of teenage desperation, but I had my drinking boots on and house wine doesn’t float my boat.

We were thinking about heading out for another sesh … but like I said, old people (plus, you know, sinus), so we headed home. Boyo stayed out later than we did, watching movies with his mates!

My date night style was all about being comfy and warm with a fun twist.

My Arch & Ollie pom pom headband was the perfect accessory to meet the fun twist criteria!  Literally.  It makes me look like I’ve had rather fancy mini buns twisted into my hair.  I couldn’t love it more.

The star of my outfit was my super fun Boom Shankar Dorris Skirt.  Shop my exact skirt here or check out the same print in the Kate midi skirt.  I added a coordinating Gorman mustard patent belt.

I kept the rest of my outfit plain black to let the skirt shine bright like a diamond.

I layered my Rasaleela Jess Tie Top under a vintage Peter Morrissey leather jacket I customised with Liberty of London buttons. Berlei Dig Free opaque tights in black and my go to boots, gifted Echo boots from Planet Shoes.  Check out my Planet Shoes winter shoerobe

Chucked the essentials in my Michael Kors Jet Set cross body bag, gifted by Shopbop.  The tan leather coordinates with the 70s esque print beautifully, don’t you think?

Feeling super cute in Newtown.  Feeling super sick too, in the non cool kids version of the word.  Laughter truly was the best medicine though.

What was the last cocktail you had? Love a classic, or like to shake it up? #seewhatIdidthere
