favourite summer holiday outfits
Welcome back, dear readers! So pleased to kick off the Wardrobe Wednesday blog linky for 2018.
Because I’m still in holiday mode, I decided to share my most popular summer holiday outfits, based off Instagram likes.
The favourite summer holiday outfits span the gamut from swimmers to raincoat, from New South Wales’ Nelson Bay in Australia to rural Canterbury in New Zealand.
Nelson Bay in late December
I have struggled for years to find a flattering pair of swimmers that not only flatter my Mumtacular Tumtacular, but don’t squish my EnormoBoobs into one boob sausage roll. I’ve had success with City Chic bikinis, so I went looking for swimmers and found the perfect one piece there too.
They’re sold out online but if you’re lucky, you might find a pair in store. The cold shoulder look is flattering to those of us who drink at the Fat Ladies Arms; the straps can be removed for a different look; the ruched front smooths and disguises; and the perfectly constructed bust lifts, divides and makes your boobs look fabulous! If I do say so myself. Plus on a beach holiday, ditch the sarong, add a ruffled wrap skirt and take yourself from beach to bar in style.
I wore this on Dutchmans Beach (Dutchies to the locals) at Nelson Bay, NSW, for a little family R&R holiday prior to Christmas.
Teamed with a Dog & Boy silk scarf worn as a sarong, TopKnotGirl headband from Hello Hemi and Gorman sunnies.
These lovely togs definitely make my top list for favourite summer holiday outfits!
Sydney Harbour on NYE
For a night spent watching the New Years Eve fireworks harbourside on Goat Island, I wore a super fun Lola Rose Thompson x Gorman T shirt with cropped Taking Shape denim and rose gold Hugo Sheppard & Co kicks. My fabulous Filbert & Mason pom pom earrings were the perfect NYE accessory!
We stopped for an early dinner and a cocktail or two in Barangaroo before heading over to Goat Island on the ferry. Worth every penny for the best view we have ever had.
Harold Park Tramsheds for the Welshman’s birthday
We headed to the delightful Fish & Co for a family friendly birthday dinner at the hipster Harold Park Tramsheds. Plus a few artisan beers first. It was the Welshman’s birthday after all!
I wore my beautiful Christmas gift, the oh so pretty Big Rocks beach dress from the Mireia Ruiz x Gorman collection.
Teamed with Ziera leopard sandals, Salvation Jewellery earrings and my Kate Spade bag, kindly gifted by Shopbop.
Darfield, New Zealand in January
Boyo and I headed off for a week in Canterbury New Zealand with my family, whilst the Welshman headed back to work.
I travelled in style in my Gorman Organic T shirt, Mireia Ruiz x Gorman Puddle Pop skirt and Rockmans embroidered denim jacket, accessorised with TopKnotGirl from Hello Hemi hairbow, YippyWhippy Feminist earrings, Sass & Bide sunnies from TK Maxx and my beloved Adidas Superstars.
Boyo kindly snapped this whilst we were waiting for our fix of Kiwi fish & chips!
Springfield Railway Station in January
We headed from one little Canterbury town, where we were staying and where my Dad lives, to another little Canterbury town. Springfield Railway Station has been leased to a co op. My Dad is a member so if you’re local, head on down from morning to early afternoon and pick up fresh eggs, organic veges and fruit juice, handmade coffee sack grocery bags, plus a variety of vintage and antique bits and pieces, as well as local handmade jewellery and accessories.
I wore my Monika Forsberg x Gorman Aviary bungalow dress with Ziera sandals, Kathleen Benham earrings and TopKnotGirl headband from Hello Hemi.
Darfield New Zealand in January
A few days later, we went from a balmy 29 degrees to a wintry 15 degrees and non stop rain. Thank goodness I packed my Dana Kinter x Gorman Buff Tailed Thornbill raincoat!
Teamed with Adidas Superstars, distressed denim from TSID Clothing and my Kate Spade handbag. (Oh and various layers to keep me warm!)
favourite summer holiday outfits
I find it interesting to review what I’ve been wearing. It helps me make decisions about what I can pass on (it’s an endlessly ongoing process!) or what I may need to keep an eye out for to fill wardrobe gaps. When it comes to checking out these favourite summer holiday outfits, it assists me next time I have to pack a suitcase.
I know what I wore, what didn’t leave the suitcase, and what I had to buy that I forgot to pack.
I am feeling quite pleased with myself as I wore almost everything I packed for both our beach and our New Zealand holidays. The only things that didn’t get a run were options in case the weather got cooler on our NSW holiday, or if we had more hot weather in New Zealand.
I’m a terrible overpacker so was delighted that my packing routine worked a treat!
Did you get away these holidays? Are you back to work yet? What were your favourite summer holiday outfits?
