Recently two of Boyo’s favourite things came together in one fun event – movies and Subway!  We were invited to a premiere viewing of Finding Dory thanks to Subway KidsPak.  The Welshman was overseas on a business trip, so it was the perfect occasion for a Mama Boyo date.

We were lucky to be amongst the first in the world to see Finding Dory in 3D.  The 3D is amazeballs with awesomesauce.  We literally felt like we were under the sea!

FINDING DORY – Marlin and Nemo get guidance from a pair of lazy sea lions in an effort to catch up with Dory. Featuring Idris Elba as the voice of Fluke and Dominic West as the voice of Rudder, “Finding Dory” opens on June 17, 2016. ©2016 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

Subway KidsPak Finding Dory movie review

Finding Nemo was released 13 years ago, and was a fast favourite in our house.  It was a treat for toddler Boyo to sit down and watch the movie during his afternoon quiet time.  You know, that thing parents try to establish when nap time is no longer a thing.

Luckily, I also loved the movie and could quite happily watch it several times a week.

We were both thrilled to see Finding Dory.  The good thing about 12 year olds is that they’re old enough to be nostalgic about their babyhood, but young enough to watch a kids’ movie with you!

FINDING DORY – When Dory finds herself in the Marine Life Institute, a rehabilitation center and aquarium, Hank—a cantankerous octopus—is the first to greet her. Featuring Ed O’Neill as the voice of Hank and Ellen DeGeneres as the voice of Dory, “Finding Dory” opens on June 17, 2016. ©2016 Disney•Pixar. All Rights Reserved.

Finding Dory takes place a year after the events of Finding Nemo, and stars everyone’s favourite memory-challenged fish, Dory. Oh wait, there’s only one famous memory-challenged fish? Dory is still our favourite, though.

Her endearing charm, and the disability sensitivity inherent in the movie, make for a heartwarming family movie. Marlin is a worrier, Nemo is a warrior, and Dory comes into her own.

We discover the story of Dory (ooh, make a rhyme every time) through a series of flashbacks.  A host of new characters are also introduced, along with some old favourites.

The gruff octopus, Hank, has chameleon skills, and creates a sense of wonder for the little ones.  He has some funny lines for the parents too.  I’m rather fond of the British sea lions too.  Not least because Idris Elba voices one of them.

Finding Dory continues the message started in Finding Nemo – family is everything – and fosters the idea of rising despite adversity.  You know how it goes … “just keep swimming, just keep swimming … ”

Subway KidsPak

Now that Boyo is older and afternoon quiet time involves his iPad, his iPhone and his laptop, his idea of treats has evolved too.  As a growing tween, they tend to involve food.  Now, a tween’s idea of yummy food treats and a mama’s idea of yummy treat foods aren’t necessarily the same.

Luckily, we both agree that Subway is an excellent choice.  He loves the taste and being able to choose what goes in his sub.  I love that it is a healthy option, includes vegetables and isn’t packed with sugar and weird additives.

The Subway KidsPak is a nutritionally balanced kids’ meal containing a 4 inch sub (hello lean protein, fibre, carbs, and choose-your-own fresh salad), a bottle of water and a fruit puree smoothie pack.

Plus with nearly 1,500 stores Australia wide, you’re almost always within striking distance of a Subway when little people let you know they’re hungry and need to eat now, now, now!

Perfect for families on the go, the Subway KidsPak is available in ham, turkey, roast beef or Veggie Delite™.  Specially sized for little tummies, it’s also a boon for parents of fussy eaters.  Kids get to choose which veggies they want on their sub.

Boyo started off with, shall we say, a limited vegetable selection. Over the years, our local Subway actually have encouraged him to try new flavours and add different vegetables to his subs.  If one of us pick up his post-footy training Subway dinner, they miss him and ask after him.  Isn’t that sweet!

That’s a tough one. I have actually tried them all and they’re all so good because they are all delish. I’d like to have different flavours depending on my mood, but my favourite would have to be Roast Beef! It’s past midnight here and thinking about it just made me hungry! I’m so going to get one tomorrow because it’s good value (although I’m not a kid anymore :))ReplyCancel

A Subway KidsPac containing Ham, love the Ham! But it’s the salad that gets a mix up! What they want on their sub changes every time. That’s the great thing about Subway, kids gets to make their own choices and its easy to steer a fussy little one in a healthy direction. Everything is colourful and fresh and if they have picked it, they are more likely to try it and usually love it!ReplyCancel

Can’t go past Turkey and salad combo – lean, healthy and tasty! Oh, and my 2 boys would take the turkey hands down too! Funny how they’ve got expensive taste … run in the family much? Lucky KidsPaks won’t break the bank! 😉ReplyCancel

I know Pickle would love the ham, but I’m keen to get him to try the turkey too. I had no idea that these KidsPaks existed, so look forward to taking Pickle out to discover them, as his big (step) brothers love Subway!ReplyCancel
