I love to garden like a granny. My urban suburban tropage garden just makes me happy. I’m sharing a couple of my favourite gardening life hacks.
Gardening Life Hacks | propagating succulents
It is virtually impossible to kill succulents. Even the blackest of thumbs can usually manage to keep cacti and succulents alive. In fact, you’re more like to kill them by overwatering. Neglect totally works!
Once they’re flourishing, you can grow more succulents. Just literally plant cuttings into mini pots. Once they are established and growing well, you can replant them into bigger pots. Or repeat!
About half of my garden is propagated from three plants!
Gardening Life Hacks | filtered water
When filling small pots, line them with a coffee filter before adding potting mix.
It’s a super duper easy way of retaining the soil. When you water your plant, excess water will escape through the permeable filter but the soil won’t be lost.
Gardening Life Hacks | grounds for quality
Recycle your coffee grounds by digging them into your soil in your pot plants, big potted plants and garden soil. You must make sure you dig it in or it will form an impermeable layer on top of your soil. Alternatively, you could cover it with a good layer of mulch.
It’s super easy to dig in with a hand spade – just turn it over.
It will increase your soil quality by boosting the nitrogen levels – and the coffee grounds are known to repel slugs and snails.
You can also grab bags of coffee grounds for recycling from lots of cafes.
