Hourglass Cosmetics

I treated myself to Hourglass Cosmetics Ambient Powder Wardrobe last year – a limited edition trio palette of high-tech soft focus finishing powders.  I use Dim Light as my finishing powder (and marvel as my pigmentation and wrinkles just blur out of existence).  Incandescent Light is my oh so subtle glow highlighter, and Radiant Light is my perfect-for-pale-skin bronzer.  It also doubles as a beautiful neutral eyeshadow.  Gorgeous with a fine liquid liner and a matte red lip.

Since then, I’ve become obsessed with the brand.  It is stocked at Mecca Cosmetica in Australia.

Recently, I was invited to experience an Hourglass Cosmetics makeup session at Mecca Cosmetica with none other than Laura Janes, National Training Director / MUA of Hourglass Cosmetics.  Serious Girl Crush.

Quick as a flash, I handed over my $50 to secure my booking – applied against purchases on the day.  Friday the 13th this year was going to be the luckiest day ever!

Each booking was assigned a fabulous Mecca Cosmetica makeup artist who prepped our skin before the makeup application, before Laura performed the base work, and applied one eye.  The Mecca Cosmetica makeup artist then completed the makeup, consulting with Laura.

I arrived sans makeup for my appointment – so much easier for all concerned! My skin was treated with a facial massage to apply a moisture boost.  I’ve now incorporated a daily facial massage into my morning and evening skincare regime.

My base was prepped with the cult Hourglass Veil Mineral Primer SPF 15, completed with Veil Fluid Makeup SPF 15, corrected with Hidden Concealer and perfected with Ambient Lighting Powder in Dim Light.

My eyes were made up with Modernist Eyeshadow Palette in Colour Field – nude, gold, brown, olive greens.  Crease-resistant, finely milled shadows in matte and shimmer formulations that blend like a dream and stay put all day long.

My lashes were coated in Film Noir Full Spectrum Mascara, and Mechanical Gel Eye Liner was applied on my tightline (under the upper lashes on the inner rim) to make my lashes look fuller.  Love that trick!

Arch Brow Sculpting Pencil in Soft Brunette was applied to my eyebrows, for a softer look than my usual bold brow.  I quite like it!

My cheeks were prettily flushed with Dim Infusion Ambient Lighting Blush, and my face was sculpted with Ambient Lighting powders from the Ambient Powder Wardrobe – Radiant Light as bronzer and Incandescent Light as illuminator.

For the final touch, my lips were outlined and blended with Panoramic Lip Liner in Canvas, and completed with a little Femme Rouge Velvet Creme Lipstick in Mural, a pretty plum rose.

Hourglass Cosmetics | my makeover products

I just adore Hourglass Cosmetics.  They have a limited range compared to some other brands, but because they invest so much effort and research into producing the most technologically advanced products, each product is as perfect as it can be.  It’s quality over quantity!

Plus, how sleek and gorgeous is the packaging? I was hesitant about the beautiful contents of the eyeshadow palette, but they’ve performed some sort of amazing magic trick here.  The powders do not separate nor blur into each other in the palette, yet blend so beautifully on the eyelid.

I treated myself to some of their seriously quality brushes too – the powder brush and two eyeshadow brushes.  The brushes are cruelty free, made from quality taklon, and they’re perfectly designed for the products.  Now that I have the Hourglass powder brush to use with the Ambient Lighting palette, I’ve noticed I’m using significantly less product.  Love that!

The brushes definitely qualify as an investment purchase (ie, they’re expensive), but the payoff is that much less product is needed.  In the long run, using less of a high quality product works out to be much the same price as having to use more of a cheaper product. It’s the same theory behind buying salon hair products.

Don’t get me wrong – I still adore cheap and cheerful cosmetics! Hourglass Cosmetics truly deserves its cult status.
