The fabulous Rachel from Redcliffe Style shared an outfit featuring leather track pants recently.  Et voila, I had the perfect project to recover from a horrid trip to the dentist – tracking down a pair for myself (see what I did there?).

Unfortunately, my budget didn’t stretch to the Events leather pair Rachel featured.  They’re currently reduced to $209.95 from $299.95 if you’ve got more money in your kitty.  I’m extremely tempted … but the Welshman reminded me of my No Shopping pledge.  Spoilsport.

I was delighted when I found a faux leather pair for under $50.  Check out the Living Doll Wax Track Pant.  Recommended retail is $59.95 but David Jones currently has them on sale for $41.96 with free delivery for cardholders, or for purchases over $50.  Plus they offer a next day click and collect service for orders placed before 4pm.

The next mission is to work out how to wear leather track pants.  They are a polarising piece – people either love them or hate them.  I quite fancy them but I think they’re more of a cheap chic one season purchase rather than a statement investment piece.  Mind you, if I had the budget, I’d so snap up the gorgeous Events pair!  It’s all relative!

I think leather track pants need heels and to be dressed up with stylish accessories and chic pieces to play up the sport luxe element.

I’ve styled leather track pants three ways – for casual, for the office (or lunch with the girls) and for evening.

How to Wear Leather Track Pants | Casual

First up, I’ve styled leather track pants for a casual day out.  I’ve kept it monochrome with a stylish Sussan striped long sleeve top with quilted faux leather shoulder details.  A front tuck with the rest of the fabric draped around the waistline is a great way to keep it casual and define the waist.  A grey Verily scarf and Sussan Rib Hem cardigan add a layer of warmth and continue the monochrome theme.

A touch of whimsy is added with some delightful Erstwilder Pierre’s Pug Life earrings from Vintage Pip.  Adding a pop of colourful comfy chic is my beloved Sterling & Hyde loafers.  Keep the essentials to hand with the cute Gigi leather clutch by Anizoe from Fashionista Depot, and carry everything else in comfort and style with the boho chic Blueberry Backpack from Bohemian Traders.

How to Wear Leather Track Pants | Office

Now, you might not be able to get away with leather track pants in every office, but you would totally rock everyone’s world on Casual Friday.  This would be fab for lunch out with the girls too.

A cropped waterfall jacket is flattering for many figures.  Like most Metalicus jackets, it can be dressed up or dressed down and is perfect for travel.  Wear it over a lace top like this Blush Daisy Burnout Lace Tee from Dorothy Perkins.  The juxtaposition of the lace with the leather is fabulously tough pretty.

Add some ladylike strut with killer heels.  The Aztec Sunset beaded earrings from Shabby Sisters tie in the colour scheme prettily.  A classic with a twist bag like the Miley Chain Pouch from Colette Hayman works back perfectly.

How to Wear Leather Track Pants | Evening

Finally, I’ve styled leather track pants for evening.  I just love the unexpected glamour of a simple piece of clothing in a luxurious texture.  I’ve continued this with classic pieces in luxurious fabrics like the Staple the Label Silk Organza Stripe Tank from David Jones, and Louise Navy leather clutch from Sterling & Hyde.  On top of these classic building blocks, I’ve layered some embellished glamorous statement jewellery pieces from Colette Hayman.  A lot of glamour for less than the price of a cocktail!

The gorgeous fringed and embroidered Living Doll Day Dream Kimono from David Jones adds some boho chic, which clashes elegantly with the sexily pointed toe Alexa Bluebell Lizard Diavolino pumps.

Alternatively, the outfit could feature a printed top and embellished clutch worked back with a plain silk blazer and elegantly simple precious metal jewellery.

Would you wear any of these outfit combinations?  Any tips on how to wear leather pants?  Are they an investment piece, a cheap chic alternative or a no way Jose for you?

Interesting. I don’t know that that’s a look that I could pull off. I owned suede shorts once and they lived in my closet. Of course, now I wish I still had them.ReplyCancel

Love the leather tack pants and how you’ve styled them. Can’t say I’d wear them up here in Brisvegas, where it’s still hitting 30 degrees everyday as I don’t do sweat (Ever. Not even when I exercise. ha!) but I’d wear them in a heartbeat if I lived in a cooler climate xReplyCancel

I can’t pick a favourite, as I love all of them – but I would substitute leather leggings / jeans for the trackpants 😉 … as you said, you either love ’em or hate ’em!ReplyCancel
