Kidspot Voices of 2014

You may not have realised that I was nominated for the Kidspot Voices of 2014 awards.  I mean, I’ve only  mentioned it three or four dozen times.  OK, three or four thousand times.  I’m even more excited to announce that I’m a Top 40 Blogger in the Beauty & Lifestyle category.

The Masterclass and launch event unfortunately coincided with our family holiday to Tasmania.  The Welshman is such a top bloke, and was so very proud of me, that he booked me a flight to join them on Sunday morning.

The Blokefolk had a fabulous two day man break whilst waiting for me to join them.  Aren’t they darling?

Kidspot Voices of 2014
The delightful Sonia from Sonia Styling was also nominated and flew down to Sydney.  She is the best houseguest – arrives with South Australian delights such as Bird in Hand wine and Haigh’s chocolate.  So welcome any time she wants!

Our Kidspot Bloggeriffic Extravaganza commenced with drinks at The Cottage Balmain with the fabulous Christina and Jim, aka Mr and Mrs Romance and Hair Romance.  Danielle from Danimezza and Jo from iCurvy also joined us.

Note to self – make sure you check the clock when settling in for a late night chat.  Sonia and I got home at a relatively responsible time of midnight but chatted ’til the wee hours.  3.30 am when we needed to be up and out the following day?  Not so smart.  Lots of fun though!

An amazing panel was assembled for the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Masterclass to pass on their experience and wisdom at the most delightful venue ever, Megan Morton’s The School in Rosebery.

Panel 1: INFORMATION: Finessing Facebook Convenor: Bron Maxabella: Maxabella Loves | Panel: Yianni Konstantopoulos: Group Managing Director: Social@Ogilvy | Katrina Springer: The Organised Housewife | Jaclyn Carlson: The Blog Society

Top lessons for me:

  • Take my newsletter out of the Too Hard Basket
  • Use different photos and approaches for different platforms
  • Add all social media links to the bottom of each post

Panel 2: ISSUES: Sharing Is Caring: In conversation Convenor: Alex Brooks : Kidspot | Panel: Kayte Murphy: Woogsworld | Beth Macdonald: BabyMac

Top lessons for me:

  • It’s OK to write an emo post occasionally
  • It’s your blog, do what you want
  • But remember, it’s not all about you.  Give your readers something to take away with them – tips, recipe, even pretty pictures or a laugh.
  • Say yes even if it is scary because you never know what opportunities may arise

Panel 3: INSPIRATION: Innovation in conversation Convenor: Pip Lincolne: Meet Me At Mike’s/JustB | Panel: Luisa Brimble: Alphabet Family Journal | Lisa Tilse: The Red Thread | Sneh Roy: Cook Republic

Top lessons for me:

  • Be a COP – Consistent. Original. Persistent.  Sneh Roy
  • Bite off more than you can chew because you may be able to chew more than you thought.  Pip Lincolne

Oh! So Much Fun! Chat, cocktails, champagne, canapés and conversation.  It was lovely to catch up with bloggy friends, fangirl some amazing bloggers and discover they’re completely all about keeping it real, and add to my already burgeoning blog reader feed.  So much talent in one room is very heady!

You know when you’re watching an awards show and scoff at the people who exclaim that it is an honour just to be nominated?  It’s true!  It really is thrilling to be nominated (whoever you are, thank you!).  Making the Top 100 Bloggers for Kidspot Voices of 2014 was just beyond.  Maybe I have got a clue about this blogging caper after all!

A huge thank you to Ford, the main sponsor of the Kidspot Voices of 2014, and silver sponsors, Olympus and Garnier.  Another big kiss for the Kidspot crew who worked tirelessly to pull together such amazing events and make every single blogger involved feel super special and valued.

Kidspot Voices of 2014 | What I Wore

For the Kidspot Voices of 2014 Masterclass, I wore a new frock.  Isn’t she pretty with her china plate print and butterfly sleeves?  It’s by Sadie from Meshh, one of my favourite online boutiques.  Teamed with purple Spanx leggings and fluoro patent Sambag ballet flats, I was cute and comfy.

My gorgeous Sterling & Hyde ladybag with Seed Femme tassel was the perfect classic accessory. Curvy Cartel surprised me with a gorgeous neon crystal pendant  (do check her Instagram boutique out!) which was the perfect piece to Kimba-up my outfit.

My sterling silver Usual Suspects bangles, champagne cubic zirconia studs from Lovisa and my Mimco Sportivo watch completed the look.

Oh my goodness.  I cannot tell you how gorgeous I felt in this divine Events Floral Ballgown Skirt.  It is truly a princess piece, don’t you think?

I was extremely lucky to receive this piece as a gift from the gorgeous online team at Events and I’m truly grateful.

I teamed it with a simple jersey racer back tank with leatherette trim and an exposed back zip for a tough pretty look.  Only $20 from Target.

My trusty black snake print leather waist belt by Leona Edmiston did an admirable job of helping me fake a waist, assisted by the fullness of the tulle underskirt.

I amped up the tough pretty with black suede peeptoe booties by Steve Madden, a fabulous thrift shop find.  I channelled a bit of rock chic attitude by wearing Over and Over A-Gwen OPI lacquer for my mani-pedi.  Thank you so much to Coty PR for the gorgeous gift.

Kidspot Voices of 2014

My gorgeous jewellery is by Peter Lang from Fashionista Depot, who very kindly loaned me these gorgeous pieces for the night.  I just adore the colour clash with added sparkly prettiness.

Jyle Spice of Stevie English did such a fabulous job on Friday that my hair survived to rock Masterclass School and party on at the Kidspot Voices of 2014 launch event.  Don’t you love that!

  • […]     Asian inspired style from the 1920s reminds me of an exhibition I saw in 2008 at the Art Gallery of New South Wales, Taisho Chic: Japanese Modernity, nostaglia and deco. The education kit for the exhibition display some beautiful examples of kimonos, like the one below from the Honolulu Academy Of The Arts and is thought to be made somewhere between 1925 and 1950. I love the 1950s or Jean Miro style pattern on the fabric.   I’m joining in on Kimba’s Wednesday Wardrobe link up. I ADORE what you wore to the awards! I can’t get over how beautiful that skirt is. It is fun, but classy. And has a maturity to it but you can still skip around with happiness. I just think it is gorgeous – and you are glowing in it!

LOVE the outfits… that Messh dress is lovely… Might check them out in my hunt for a good dress for the Mr’s induction… good tip!ReplyCancel

    • Kim-Marie - 23 April 2014 - 6.12 pm

Actually, B, I completely ran out of time today to do your dress hunt, so I’ve been having a sneaky peek whilst linking blog post finds.

This dress would actually be perfect for you. It’s very pretty and not too formal. The butterfly sleeves and elastic waist are flattering and the length is appropriate for Mrs Principal.

It’s sold out I think but have a look at Meshh.com.au for more fabulous pieces.ReplyCancel
