National Opshop Week with The Thrifted Redhead

It’s National Opshop Week and a great time to celebrate loving preloved with The Thrifted Redhead.

Have you met her yet? She’s my thrifting alter ego, sharing thrift finds from opshops, markets and more, upcycling rescued pieces, decorating with vintage and loving preloved.

Every day this week, I’m sharing the story of a thrifted piece.

National Opshop Week is a great prompt to do a quick sweep through your cupboards and take your donations to your nearest opshop.  Make someone else happy and raise funds for charity too!

National Opshop Week | black leather

Yes, my dress is covered with printed Iced Vovos.  I know right?!  It is new season Dangerfield and unfortunately not thrifted.  It was the perfect choice for me to celebrate 22 years in Australia and 22 years in New Zealand on the anniversary of my emigration.

I teamed this adorable dress with thrifted Gorman pixie boots and Gorman x Atelier Bingo Collage Vert hairbow, and my thrifted hero piece, a fabulous leather jacket.

My cropped collarless black leather jacket is by 90s Australian style icon, Morrissey, and I paid a tenner for it, from Rozelle Markets. Rozelle Markets is no more; replaced by Rozelle Collectors Market in recent years, but the jacket keeps rockin’.

I spent an hour or so lovingly polishing it back to life.  I customised it by switching the buttons with Liberty of London fabric covered ones, bought on a trip to London.

It has given me many years of stylish happiness, and will continue to rock my world for many years to come.

National Opshop Week | leopard love

I have a longstanding love for leopard, and this gorgeous green version leapt out at me on a wander through Rozelle Collectors Market.

Even better, it was on a 3 for $10 rack. I know right?!

This mock turtleneck is sans label but the care tag tells me it was made in Italy.  It has served me well this winter as a layering piece.

Here, I’ve teamed it with Bohemian Traders denim pinafore, forest green tights, seafoam green Mimco sunnies, Dana Kinter x Gorman Buff Tailed Thornbill hairbow, and gorgeous silver Pineberry ankle boots, kindly gifted by Planet Shoes.

National Opshop Week | skater girl

A skater dress is always at home in my wardrobe. It’s just super flattering on my shape.

I was very happy to find this French terry winterweight ASOS skater dress.  I spent $10 on it at Rozelle Collectors Market and helped fund someone’s overseas trip.

I nearly popped it back because it is two sizes too big, but that makes it perfect for winter layering.  It also makes for a more flattering fit on my EnormoBoobs-no-waist-baby-got-back-butt figure!

I’ve layered it over matchy matchy Sonsee Woman tights and H&M fine gauge knit in cinnamon, and added Steve Madden boots kindly gifted by Shopbop.

National Opshop Week | fly girl

I’ve teamed two favourite thrifted pieces from two of my favourite opshops. They are both quite long lists, to be fair!

The navy, blush pink and green swing tunic is by Cos and was found at Red Cross Rozelle. I used to volunteer there, and would love to be able to do so again one day soon.

The swing tunic teams perfectly with denim, don’t you think?

My trench coat is a little bit spesh.  I found it at Goodwill Lane Cove, with tags still on and paid a mere $12.  Not only is it in my favourite navy and lovely wool fabric, but it is vintage Qantas flight staff uniform.  It is from the George Gross Harry Who era, and I couldn’t love it more.

I’ve teamed it with a Monika Forsberg x Gorman scarf, Karla Cola hairbow and my new favourite jeans.  Get yourself to Just Jeans and get your hands on some Slim & Flatten high waisted jeans.

Some of the thrifted pieces I’ve featured here were not found in opshops but the great thing about the Rozelle Collectors Markets (apart from the fabulous community, the awesome food trucks and the amazing bargains) is that it is directly across the road from one opshop and less than a block away from another.  Many stallholders donate their leftovers directly to the opshops.

I’ve also instituted a one in one out policy in my wardrobe.  For every new piece that enters my wardrobe (that’s new to me so includes thrifted items), one piece exits my wardrobe.  They either hit my eBay store or go into the bag to be donated to my local opshops.  So the circle of loving preloved continues!

Do you love to find a thrifted bargain?

I really struggle to find gold at op shops; I think I need to take some thrifting tips from you! I think I’m always looking for specific outfits/pieces, and don’t have the patience.
Maybe Op Shop Week will help me!ReplyCancel
