Next Bunny Sweater | What I Wore for Mother’s Day

Next Bunny Sweater Mother's Day

I hope your Mother’s Day was as fantastic as mine!  So Much Fun!  The Blokefolk spoilt me rotten and we celebrated with a Family Fun Weekend.  I was very lucky to receive lots of lovely gifts, including my new statement sweater BFF, my Next Bunny Sweater.

Next Bunny Sweater What I Wore Mother's Day

Do you love going to the zoo?  I just love it.  My tips are to go early, go hard and then go home!  In the early morning, you can beat the crowds and you’ve got a much better chance of seeing animals active and awake!

I teamed my Mother’s Day gift of the adorable Next Bunny Sweater with a GAP denim skirt, Leona Edmiston Pins navy opaque leggings and comfortable Converse hi tops.

Navy tights are my go to – just a bit more fun than basic black, but not so eye-catching that they take over the outfit.  Navy is my black.

I carried just the essentials – iPhone, glasses, a lippy and powder and my wallet (coffee money being another essential!) – in my handy Sterling & Hyde Jane bag.  Practical in her neutral coffee colour with internal and external pockets, and an adjustable strap for slinging over my shoulder or cross-body style.  Pretty with her luxurious  leather, gold hardware and a little leather bow.

It’s taken me a while to figure it out, but I just look terrible in pencil skirts.  I know they’re a style classic and the basis of so many fabulous looks.  But they do nothing for my figure.  I don’t feel like I’m channelling sexy secretary chic.  I feel like a lumpy bumpy frump.

The only pencil skirt I can wear is one made of stretchy fabric, like the Verily Jacquard pencil skirt I wore here.

The inability to wear a pencil skirt is probably the reason I’ve had such a difficult time finding a denim skirt to suit me.  Yes, I could have gone for a full skirt in denim, but I wanted a traditional denim skirt.  I think I’m now officially past the good enough legs to pull off a denim mini skirt (note I didn’t say age there – if you look good in it, then wear it, no matter your age!), but I wasn’t ready to give up the denim skirt dream.

Sifting through the racks at Rozelle Red Cross as I was volunteering one afternoon, I spotted something that made my heart beat a little faster. A denim skirt.  GAP denim.  Longer than a belt but not scary religious cult midi length.  Didn’t have a tummy enhancing front zip.  Side pockets.  Front split but crucially not a back one – important if you want to bend over without scarring the eyes of passersby.  A mid rise waist.  Fabric not so soft and thin it shows up every lump and bump, and not so thick it drapes like cardboard, ie, not at all.  The final piece of the puzzle?  It was in my size!  Consider that sold!

Next Bunny Sweater What I Wore Mother's DayMother’s Day just isn’t complete without family, and an outfit photo taken by the Welshman just isn’t complete without a photobombing Boyo.

Boyo’s in fine form here, enjoying a chocolate frappe from the new and improved Taronga Zoo Food Market, and sporting a NY gangsta blinged out leather cap, with his Target Star Trek tee, emblazoned with the legend “Chicks dig the uniform”.  A pair of GAP cropped sweat pants and his beloved Vans and that’s Boyo Style.

Like most clever mamas of boys, when we can drag our male offspring to the shops, we stock up.  Am I right?  Finding something for my broad shouldered muscly young man, who likes to wear his gear baggy skater boy style in the era of skinny jeans, isn’t easy.  When I do manage to find him something he loves, I buy every colour I can find and the next size up too.  It may only be mere months before the next size up is required!

Same goes for shoes.  When we find his beloved Converse or Vans on sale, we buy at least two pairs.  One for now and one for the next growth spurt.  Great theory – except when the next growth spurt exceeded the spare shoe size!  Luckily, it was my size and I’m the proud owner of some rocking new kicks.  Totes down with that.
