Sounds of Saturday

Ah, how I love Saturday!  Weekends, of course, are fabulous but Saturday has an extra zing of promise that Sunday, followed so closely by Monday as it is, just doesn’t have.

Saturday is safe in the knowledge that it can kick back a little, knowing that Sunday is there to pick up the slack.

Saturday even comes with its own soundtrack.  The pop of the toaster, the sizzle of the omelet pan, the rustle of the Welshman’s Sydney Morning Herald.  The insistent buzz of the coffee grinder, the varied sloshes, whirs and beeps of the washing machine, and Boyo’s Saturday morning cartoons, so evocative of my own childhood.  The blips and sounds of the Boyo’s Wii or DS, not to mention his running commentary so we don’t miss a thing – so different from my own childhood!  The gentle groan accompanying my every movement as my muscles relive Friday’s Pilates session.  The chatter of pocket money negotiations, shopping lists and entreaties to a small boy to get into the shower!

Many of these sounds echo throughout the week, but there is something about the magic of a Saturday that turns them into a playlist.

Do you have a favourite day of the week? Oh, do tell.  I’d love to hear all about it!

Nice post, very evocative. I’m in the grip of Sunday night angst after 2 weeks off work so the soundtrack is very dark and slow…..ReplyCancel

Thank you!  How was your first day back?!  I went back last week on Tuesday but because I had ANZAC Day off, it didn’t really feel like I’d started again!ReplyCancel

Hi KM – I can almost picture it – Mark negotiating how much pocket money you will let him have… Thanks for the smile 🙂 Simon UReplyCancel

Haha – just laughing at the thought of me running the budget!  Thanks for the giggle! 😉

The pocket money negotiations are quite serious though – now that he is 8, he gets $8, but we need to establish how much money he owes the Bank of Dad and what essentials he needs to purchase this week, and what other essential item he is saving up for the next year for?!ReplyCancel
