Vivid Sydney mini staycation
This year, our holiday plans involve minibreaks, staycations and long weekends. The Welshman can’t be away from the office for more than a week this year, due to managing project deliverables, so we are staying close to home and exploring some local love.
We recently had a long weekend in the Blue Mountains, and I used my overnight bag packing experience for a Vivid Sydney mini staycation.
The gorgeous Shangri-La Hotel, formerly the ANA, was our home for the night. We booked a room with the perfect orientation for Vivid Sydney – looking directly over the Bridge and the Opera House. The 28th floor location gave us a birds eye view of all the goings on.
We had snacks at Hart’s Pub, with plans for room service lobster club sandwiches later, but I accidentally ordered double buffalo wings. No one needed any supper whatsoever!
Next up, we hit the Vivid Sydney trail. We walked through The Rocks, around Circular Quay, past the Opera House, through the Royal Botanical Gardens, past the Sydney Conservatorium, and down Bridge Street past the Museum of Sydney, back home via Circular Quay.
I absolutely adored the changing light displays on the MCA and Sydney Opera House. The Harbour Bridge was a magical sight too.
My favourite installation was the kiwi birds, with their accompanying soundtrack of kiwi calls.
Whilst the light displays were magical, there was something very special about walking down a usually very busy street, closed to traffic.
Vivid Sydney Mini Staycation | what I wore
The Winter Style File prompt for the day was sports luxe, which was perfect for being warm and comfy in style, as we wandered through Vivid Sydney.
I teamed a Disney Originals sweat from Big W with Kmart chino joggers. I’m wearing an XL sweat and 14 pants.
My Dana Kinter x Gorman Winter Song Puffer was an investment piece but worth every penny. It’s not only super pretty but keeps me so toasty. I’m wearing the 14 and there’s room for the EnormoBoobs with it done up. I know right?!
I added some pretty pops of pink with my coral polkadot Country Road socks and my Gorman Super Moon hairbow.
My Nike wedge hi tops were a market find from Rozelle Collectors Market. Strictly speaking, I didn’t really need another pair of shoes, but I had to replace a similar pair and couldn’t pass up a markets bargain.
We all slept incredibly well. The Blokefolk woke up at 8am, which is unheard of! We hit the fabulous buffet (lattes with lactose free milk included), and I soaked up the sunshine admiring our gorgeous view whilst the Blokefolk went for a swim.
For the next day, I kept it comfy in a khaki sequin polkadot knit teamed with black Rockmans Total jeans. I’m wearing an XL knit and 14 jeans. I kept it sporty with my DKNY bag gifted by Shopbop and my hi tops.
The Winter Style File prompt was Scarf Out Loud, and my new Ownsit hair tie was the perfect Kimba version of a scarf.
Have you been to Vivid Sydney? I was surprised at how orderly the massive crowds were.
