Weekend Love

So much weekend love here. I’m a very lucky girl who works from home, so I get the majority of my chores done during the week.  The weekends are reserved for hanging out with my Blokefolk, going on family adventures and catching up with friends.

Quite a bit of blogging work gets done in the weekends too – told you I was lucky.  I love my job that much!

I’m a bit nosey and love checking out how other people spend their weekends.  I decided to set up a photo share project on Instagram. I’m really happy to do this by myself, but since (almost everything) in life is better with friends, you’re very welcome to play along with me.  In fact, I’d be delighted if you did!

Weekend Love | Saturday Special

It’s easy!  On Saturdays, snap the moments that make you laugh, maybe make you cry and definitely make your heart overflow.  The hashtag is #SaturdaySpecial.

This Saturday, I started my day off the right way.  With a sleep in!  Unfortunately, it was a catch up of the sleep I missed the night before, but as a silver lining girl, I choose to appreciate it and call it a sleep in.  A rare treat for the parent types, often.

We headed to Taronga Zoo, and wandered around a section we haven’t ventured into for a while.  The barnyard – with piglets, snoozing sheep, silkie chickens (now renamed Afro Chickens by Boyo) and the world’s most patient goat – was the start of our journey. After a stop for coffee, of course.  We peeped at snoring wombats and sleeping Tasmanian devils.  We wandered through the Eco House.

What’s some weekend love without some photobombing love?

We checked out Australian animals and watched Gung, the male Asiatic elephant being run through his training paces with mixed feelings.  The animals need to be trained in order to undergo health and medical checkups and procedures, but it left me feeling uneasy, with uncomfortable memories of circus animals.

Then we headed to Balmoral Beach for the Blokefolk to have a swim.  I declined in favour of a snooze in the car with the Wilosophy podcast on, bare feet slung through the open window and seat reclined.  There wasn’t a shady spot left on the beach, but the car was sublimely cool.

Our Saturday was finished with an afternoon of reading on the sofas, browsing the newspapers and barbecue lamb for dinner.  The Welshman made me a mango salsa rice salad to go with mine.  He’s a keeper.

Weekend Love | Sunday Funday

The very best thing about Saturday is that you get to repeat it all over again on Sunday, before life returns to normal on Monday.

We had such a fabulous time on Saturday that we pretty much repeated the whole shebang on Sunday!  We borrowed Taronga Zoo Gold Passes from the Welshman’s work, so decided to put them to good use and repeatez-vous!

We explored the other side of the zoo – the African animals, big cats, chimpanzee and Great Southern Oceans exhibit.  Oh, those little fairy penguins.  The sweetest!

We admired the gorgeous view as we got some great exercise.  Hit my Fitbit steps goal halfway through the day!

Time to hit the beach again.  This time, I packed my togs and even went for a swim.  I kept a close eye on the skies for Porcine Air.  I don’t like the beach.  It has far too much sand for my liking and water that moves.

The Blokefolk entertained themselves by jumping off the pier and competing for the biggest splash.  I doggy paddled around and did my water Kimba-cize.  Running on the spot, ballet lunges and jumps.  Yes, I look like a tool, but I can’t pass up the opportunity for a little low impact exercise!

Home for a sofa movie date with Boyo – we’re working our way through the Harry Potter movies – followed by a spot of gardening (aka tidying up after the Bunny Bros and their earth moving efforts) and delicious barbecued snapper with mango salsa for dinner.

Sounds like you had a great weekend Kimba! I love Taronga zoo – so many beautiful animals to see! I also love the beach but I’m with you on the moving water front – not a fan – I more so like the idea of going to the beach and sunning myself to get some vitamin D and enjoy the relaxing atmosphere! xoReplyCancel
