Weekend Style | Taronga Zoo & Balmoral Beach

What a lovely weekend we had recently. All about the zoo, the beach, relaxing at home together and the Welshman whipping up delicious meals on the barbecue.

We went to Taronga Zoo, courtesy of the Welshman’s company.  They have Taronga Zoo Gold Passes available for staff to borrow a couple of times a year.  What a fabulous incentive!

As we had the pass for the weekend, we decided to head to the zoo both mornings – before it got really humid and sticky – and then hit the beach to cool down.

My favourite beach, Balmoral Beach, is just around the corner.  Perfect!  I love the retro cute look of Balmoral Beach.  Puts me in mind of a 50s beach resort.  Especially  when it’s filled with striped beach chairs and gaily coloured beach parasols.  Retro cute swimmers are even back in style, completing my illusion.

Weekend Style | Saturday

For a very hot day, I teamed Country Road chambray shorts (thanks Nikki from Styling You for the heads up – I adore them!) with a patterned Old Navy layered tank.  I booted up with a recent thrifted find – some perfectly beaten up Midas leather Chelsea boots. Click for my Op Shop Shoe Rules – you never know, you might find some buried treasure too!

I accessorised for the weather with a Blue Soul printed kimono and a leather brimmed Seed Femme hat.  I picked up the brand new kimono from an otherwise unsuccessful opshop trip.  I was looking for men’s jeans I could customise into distressed boyfriend cutoffs and found myself buying a pair of Current/Elliott skinny ankle grazer jeans for $6 (yes, six dollars!) and this very pretty kimono for $4.

A delicate Uberkate loves Il Tutto necklace and an Anizoe leather fringe hipster bag completes my look.

The hat was a gift from the Blokefolk for Christmas.  Click to check out my summer hat picks  If you’re a fan of the kimono for your summer style, join Rachel from Redcliffe Style and me for Style it Project January.

Weekend Style | Sunday

For our second trip to the zoo, I teamed a very pretty cream top from Katies* with Sportsgirl mustard shorts.  Sportsgirl is one of those shops that I venture into every now and then and find some fabulous pieces.  If I can get over how loud the music is.  Definitely not their target market but it’s always a good idea to shop outside of your comfort zone once in a while.  I’m very glad I picked them up on sale though, as the hem has already unravelled.  Sad face.

I added my Bohemian Traders coin necklace to coordinate with the shorts, and my trusty Seed Femme hat coordinated with my Licorice Mox.

This sticky Sydney weather is giving me a good glimpse into the world of menopause.  I’ve even started carrying a fan.  I’ve got absolutely no sign whatsoever of menopause, but at least I know what hot flashes will feel like!

My Fitbit got another good workout, and my pretty gold Pixie Mini bag from Il Tutto is the perfect size to carry everything I need in streamlined style.

I’m totes in love with my togs. A $25 bargain emergency purchase from Kmart when I forgot to pop my togs into my travel bag recently.  The bodice and the wide straps are both supportive and flattering, and the ruched section is perfect for mummy tummies.  What’s even better is the powernet lining.  Yep, on a pair of $25 togs.  Loving the periwinkle blue too.
