We had an amazing family adventure on our Tasmania holiday recently. I had to miss the first couple of days because the Welshman is such a sweetie, he bought me another airline ticket so I could attend the Kidspot Voices of 2014 launch events. It is just so lovely to have someone be so proud of you and your achievements!
Packing Tips for a Tasmania Holiday
It was distinctly chillier than Sydney, I have to say! I teamed comfy soft pants with comfortable shoes perfect for walking. Flat ankle boots and hi top trainers. Scarves and layers. I even got to whip out my ski jacket and the gorgeous Betsey Johnson beret my brother-in-law and family gave to me for Christmas. Isn’t it just divine!
To cut down on packing bulk for our Tasmania Holiday, I carried my Witchery tasselled travel day bag every day, and I wore the same pieces of jewellery every day. Sterling silver earrings the Welshman gave me for my Big Four Oh My Gods purchased from Salamanca last year, the pave diamond earrings he gave me for our wedding, my Tiffany & Co bracelet he gave me for my 30th, a Bohemian Traders woven bracelet, a gorgeous UberKate Fine heart pendant necklace I won from Honey & Fizz, my Mimco Jalabee yellow silicone watch, my wedding rings, my Tiffany & Co ring I bought for my Big Four Oh My Gods and a pretty Pandora pave heart ring I won from Mama Stylista.
I also packed a pair of trainers, a pair of boots and a pair of ballet flats (just in case it was as warm as it was the week before we visited). Cutting down on shoe options is a top packing tip. Wear your heaviest ones on the plane – carry your ski jacket too!
Layers are definitely the go with a Tasmania holiday – you’ll be nice and warm in the car, then maybe a bit chilly when sightseeing. Historic and heritage sightseeing venues are often freezing too. Hats and scarves are nice and light to pack, keep you snuggly and warm and instantly update the same outfit for a whole new look. For an evening dinner excursion, I added a fine gauge knit under my short sleeved day top and a nice snuggly scarf.
However, sometimes it doesn’t matter how smart you think you are packing if you don’t do something even smarter – double check! I packed my good-to-go travel beauty case, except I forgot that I had borrowed a couple of essential items – like my hair styling products. A bit tough when dealing with a brand new hair cut! I packed a great set of travel skincare products – except the night one was practically empty. I also completely forgot to pack socks – luckily, Boyo and his big feet came in handy. I just borrowed his!
We stayed in a divine little heritage terrace in Battery Point, hung out in Salamanca and visited Port Arthur for the Hobart leg of our Tasmania holiday.

Next up in our Tasmania holiday was the very pretty Strahan. Our Risby Cove motel room looked right over the harbour, where we were adopted by a duck. Boyo celebrated his 10th birthday here with far too many sweets and half a suitcase full of presents.
We went sightseeing at the West Coast Heritage Centre, for a little bush wander (to call it a bush walk would be false advertising), and the Blokefolk went jetboating with Wild Rivers Jet for a birthday treat.

The final leg in our Tasmania holiday was Launceston. We stopped along the way to visit Tasmazia – a fabulous way to break up the journey. We stayed at the fabulous Forest Road Apartments – not only better set up than any other holiday house we have ever stayed in, but home to resident chooks and bunny rabbits named Pebble and Bear. Oh, the cute!
We took Boyo cable hang gliding and had an amazing homecooked dinner in our lovely apartment. The Welshman loves cooking and driving, but it doesn’t make for much of a holiday for him, the poor love.
